KPDN: 190K Vehicles to Receive Subsidy, WhatsApp Hotline to Curb Profiteering
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), led by YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, announced a substantial daily increase in applications for the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) following the implementation of targeted subsidies and the adjustment of diesel prices from RM2.15 to RM3.35 starting from 10 June 2024.
The KPDN had initially expanded the BUDI MADANI SKDS 2.0 program on 7 March 2024, which was initially available only to nine types of freight transport vehicles. On 13 May 2024, SKDS 2.0 was further extended to include an additional 14 types of freight transport, bringing the total to 33 types of transport vehicles involved. This expansion also includes the initial 10 types of public transport vehicles from the SKDS 1.0 phase.
On 9 June 2024, the day before the price adjustment, the KPDN received applications from 40,264 companies involving 156,242 vehicles. The highest approval rate was recorded on 10 June 2024, with 8,584 companies approved, covering 19,612 public and freight transport vehicles.
This marks a significant increase of 7,097 companies (477%) and 16,584 vehicles (548%) compared to the previous day (9 June 2024), which only recorded approvals for 1,487 companies and 3,028 vehicles.
As of 12 June 2024, the total number of companies approved for the diesel subsidy under SKDS reached 59,940, involving 198,046 public and freight transport vehicles. Immediate approvals can be granted through the MySubsidi Diesel system once the application is submitted with complete information.
The KPDN anticipates that applications will continue to rise, especially up to 30 June 2024, in line with the final cash reimbursement date for SKDS recipients who have not yet received their fleet cards.
Additionally, KPDN has also launched the Ops Kesan 2.0 initiative and Whatsapp hotline number to curb price gouging and profiteering. Members of the public are advised to send details of excessive price hikes with relevant supporting proof to the WhatsApp number 012-6654292 for the department to investigate.
