These Limited-Edition Maserati MC20 Pay Tribute to The MC12

The limited-edition Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda break cover as modern-day tributes to the legendary MC12 supercar.
Maserati celebrates the 20th anniversary of the iconic MC12 supercar in a proper manner as the Italian automaker unveils two limited-edition models based on the MC20, known as the MC20 Icona and Leggenda. To pay homage to the iconic supercar, both of these special MC20s are painted in special liveries personally curated by Maserati’s Fuoriserie bespoke arm.

Maserati MC20 Icona
Starting with the MC20 Icona, this limited-edition MC20 comes draped in the same white and blue livery used on the original road-going MC12 Stradale. The upper part of the car is painted in the Icona Bianco Audace Matte hue, with its lower half draped in contrasting Blu Stradale; both are the same colourways used on the original MC12.
Also similar to the original MC12 are the MC20 Icona’s blue and white side mirror caps, while its Trident-inspired wheels are finished in chrome, with blue-hued brake callipers hiding beneath them. Paying tribute to its Italian roots is the Tricolore flag placed below the side fender emblems of the car.

Maserati MC20 Leggenda
As for the MC20 Leggenda, this special MC20 pays homage to the MC12 GT1 racecar, specifically the one used by the Vitaphone Racing Team that helped them score three victories and two second-place finishes in the 24 Hours of Spa endurance race.
And just like the coveted racecar, the MC20 Leggenda is draped in the same Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte paint jobs, laced with several striking yellow accents. Meanwhile, the wheels are finished in a unique hue featuring two hues of black—Nero Lucido and Nero Opaco—with touches of Digital Mint, plus black-hued brake callipers.

The Fuoriserie bespoke treatment continues as we get inside these special MC20s, with both models coming standard with monocoque racing seats, a slew of carbon fibre trims and accents, as well as a new Sonus Faber premium audio system. Besides those, both special models come with their respective commemorative badges and numbering on their engine covers, while the Icona gets Nero/Blu-hued upholstery, whereas the Leggenda gets darker Nero-hued ones.

Both the limited-edition Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda are still powered by the same 'Nettuno' V6 engine as its standard twin.
Unfortunately, the special homage only applies on the cosmetic front, as both the special MC20s benefit from no performance upgrades whatsoever. This means that both models are still powered by the signature 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 ‘Nettuno’ engine that delivers 621 HP and 730 NM to its rear wheels (RWD) via an eight-speed Tremec DCT gearbox.
While not exactly an eye-to-eye comparison, it is quite obvious to see that the MC20 is truly a successor to the iconic MC12, with the former model retaining some similar design elements as the latter, not to mention both models coming with the same rear-mid-engine layout.

Although the standard MC20 can’t hold the candle against the MC12 in terms of exclusivity, we’d reckon these two limited-edition models might just do that, with Maserati producing only 20 examples of each. For reference, Maserati only produced 50 examples of the road-going MC12 Strada, thus making it a tad bit more special than the standard MC20.
