New BMW M5 Gets A Carbon Makeover from M Performance Parts

The G90 BMW M5 is now offered with M Performance Parts, featuring a slew of lightweight carbon fibre parts.
Fresh from making its global debut, the manic G90 BMW M5 is about to get more hardcore, thanks to the introduction of the M Performance Parts. This optional parts package promises to transform the electrified M5 into a more aggressive, carbon-laden super-saloon.

The clear-coated CFRP body kit transforms the new M5 into a mean-looking super-saloon.
From the M Performance Parts catalogue, buyers can spec their new M5 with a slew of performance and cosmetic enhancements, with the latter coming in the form of a stylish carbon fibre body kit. Made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) finished with a clear coating, this body kit comprises a more prominent front splitter, aerodynamic side skirt extensions with integrated fins, a larger ducktail rear spoiler, and a more aggressive rear diffuser.

Also imbued with carbon fibre are the car’s shark antenna cover and the fuel tank cap, with the latter even featuring an M Performance badge made of aluminium. Topping-off the exterior cosmetic upgrades are the optional M Performance side decals finished in Frozen Black, in case you want people to know that your M5 is sporting an M Performance Parts package.
Unfortunately, BMW has yet to include any wheel options in the package, with an optional set of lightweight M Performance alloy wheels due to arrive later next year.

The extravagant exterior makeover is mated with a minor interior equipment upgrade, as the M Performance Parts package garners the M5 some key styling features. This includes the new floor mats with contrasting stitches and M Performance badges, a new key case made of black Nappa leather upholstery, and the novel BMW M tyre bags that help you store your rubbers in style.

Predictably, the M Sport Parts package brings no changes to the M5’s powertrain setup, as this electrified super-saloon is still powered by the same plug-in hybrid (PHEV) V8 setup rated at 717 HP and 1,000 NM, making it the most potent M5 model to date. Despite its gargantuan powertrain numbers, the new M5 is hampered by its colossal weight, with the saloon model tipping the scale at 2,445 KG, almost 500 KG heavier than its predecessor.

While it won’t have much effect on the overall performance, BMW did offer the new M5 with an optional carbon fibre roof and carbon-ceramic brakes, both of which combined to help the heavy saloon shed about 55 KG. Given that this is just a standard M5 model, we can expect a more stringent diet to be put on the more extreme Competition of CS versions of the sedan, which will potentially make their debuts in years to come.

As of now, BMW has yet to announce the actual price of the M Performance Parts for the new G90 BMW M5. However, we suspect this add-on parts package, even without the lightweight wheels, can easily stretch the M5’s base price of $119,500 (RM558,035) into another level.
