The Subaru BRZ has received light tweaks inside and out for its latest 2025MY rendition revealed last weekend in Japan.

Besides the 2025MY Toyota GR86, its Subaru-badged twin has also been revised for its latest 2025 model year guise. Effectively, much of the changes in the 2025 Subaru BRZ mirror what counterparts Toyota did in their rendition of their shared sportscar.

Visually, there are some minor tweaks to note, namely the restyled LED daytime running lights (DRLs). However, the most critical of changes, though minor as well, have been performed underneath, which promises enhanced handling.

Visually, the most noticeable change can be seen in the revised LED DRLs design.

Apart from the flagship STI Sport variant, all others gain re-optrimised damper settings plus re-tuned power steering assist that both sharpens handling and improves ride comfort.

A key highlight is the re-optimised damper setting, which gets matched with re-tuned power steering assist. Together, Subaru says these changes sharpens the BRZ’s handling whilst also improving its ride comfort, and this applies to the Cup Car Basic, R and S trimline variants.

As for the STI Sport flagship, it continues to ride on the STI-tuned dampers instead.

Next comes the addition of a newly added ‘Sport Mode’ button positioned in the centre console, and this is reserved for the manual-transmission variants. This mode delivers improved throttle response and increases the Active Sound Control volume on board.

On board, MT-equipped variants now gain a new Sport Mode button, and this activates improved throttle responses plus increased volume for the Active Sound Control suite.

No Sport Mode button in AT variants, but they do see their transmission hardware gaining the ability to manually downshift at higher RPMs instead.

For the automatic transmission variants, these instead gain manual downshift ability at higher RPMs, thus granting drivers with greater control. These aside, the rumoured upgraded ECU settings never materialised.

The latter fact effectively sees the 2025MY Subaru BRZ continue to offer 232 HP and 250 NM from its signature 2.4-litre ‘boxer’ horizontally-opposed/flat 4-cyl powerplant. Apart from everything we’ve detailed thus far, little else has changed.

The updated 2025 Subaru BRZ now retails in Japan with prices ranging from JPY3,322,000 (RM98,344 – R MT) to JPY3,817,000 (RM112,998 – STI Sport AT).
