Report: The Honda NSX’s Successor Will Be An All-Electric Supercar

Reports have suggested that the Honda NSX’s successor will be an all-electric supercar set for a 2027 debut.
It’s been two years since Honda has stopped the production for one of its most iconic performance models, the NSX. After several rumours and conjectures, it appears that this iconic model will return as an all-electric supercar, set to debut some time later in 2027 or 2028.
A top executive from Honda revealed during the Monterey Car Week show last weekend that the company is in the midst of developing a new performance EV. Although the executive did not specifically mention that it will be called the NSX, this new EV model will feature some of the key aspects found in said iconic sportscar model.
"We are going to introduce a [new] sports model in 2027 or 2028," said Honda global executive vice president Shinji Aoyama to Motor1 during the Monterey Car Week show.
"We may not call it an NSX, but it's kind of an NSX-type of vehicle," Aoyama added.

The new NSX's all-electric successor will underpin the new Honda 0 Series electric platform.
More details on this, Aoyama said that the upcoming performance EV will underpin Honda’s new 0 Series electric architecture, which will make its production debut in a new electric saloon set to launch in 2026. Despite harbouring an all-electric powertrain setup, the Honda exec promises that this new sporty EV model would still be lightweight and relatively compact.
"Our development approach for this new 0 Series [car] is thin and light," Aoyama said to Motor1. "So this means, basically, how to make the platform thinner than other existing vehicles. So even [with battery dimensions], we are trying to make a thinner vehicle. So that we can realise a lower-height vehicle. This means that we can realise a larger [cabin] as well."

While some fans may disagree with the idea, a new, all-electric NSX kind of makes sense, since the previous second-gen model also featured a semi-electrified powertrain setup that is considered an evolution to the original model’s all-aluminium V6 mill. And just like how the previous NSX model started a whole new trend of a small supercar having a hybrid powertrain setup, the same might also apply to this new, all-electric NSX successor.

Given its all-electric powertrain nature, we can expect that straight-line performance won’t be a problem for this new NSX EV. As for its handling, however, it remains to be seen whether Honda has got what it takes to apply its decades worth of experience in developing nice-handling cars like the Civic Type R into a whole new platform, let alone an all-electric one.
As mentioned by Aoyama himself, this new all-electric sportscar by Honda is slated to make its debut some time later in 2027 or 2028. Until then, we can expect to learn more things about this project as we get closer to its planned debut date.
