BYD Seal Dynamic Set to Be Launched This Friday – Under RM160K?

BYD Cars Malaysia has confirmed that the baseline BYD Seal Dynamic variant will make its local debut this Friday.
Local importer and distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, Sime Darby Motors (SDM), has confirmed that the BYD Seal Dynamic is slated to make its local debut this Friday. Set to take place on Sept 6, this entry-level variant of the Seal is slated to be the cheapest EV saloon on sale in our market.
Confirmed via BYD Cars Malaysia’s official Facebook page, the BYD Seal Dynamic is essentially the baseline variant in the Seal lineup. Currently on sale in other regional markets such as Thailand, this baseline variant offers fewer amenities and performance numbers compared to its top-spec siblings, while at the same time being expected to be priced much less.

BYD Seal Dynamic (left) & BYD Seal Performance (right)
Starting with the visuals, the only noticeable difference between the baseline Seal Dynamic and the other variants is on the wheels, with the Dynamic variant rolling on smaller 18-inch units and shod in GitiComfort 225 V1 tyres, at least in the Thai market. For reference, the local-spec BYD Seal Premium rides on bigger 19-inch alloys that are shod in better Continental EcoContact 6Q tyres.

With smaller wheels, customers are expected to get better maximum range out of their EV saloon, although that is not exactly the case for the Seal Dynamic, as the baseline model makes do with a smaller 61.44-kWh battery pack compared to the larger 82.56-kWh-rated units used on both the Premium and Performance variants.
As a result, the baseline Dynamic variant boasts the least maximum EV range out of the Seal family at 510 KM (NEDC). For reference, the maximum NEDC range for both the Premium and Performance variants of the Seal are capped at 650 KM and 580 KM, respectively.
Also ‘discounted’ are both the powertrain and charging numbers, as the Seal Dynamic gets a less peppy single-motor RWD powertrain setup rated at only 201 HP (150 kW) and 310 NM, compared to the Premium RWD spec’s total output of 309 HP (230 kW) and 360 NM. As for charging, the baseline Seal variant only supports DCFC at 110 kW, while AC charging is similar to other variants at 7 kW.

Given all of its obvious shortcomings compared to other top-spec variants, the upcoming BYD Seal Dynamic will definitely have the upper hand when it comes to pricing. During its launch, the Thai-spec BYD Seal Dynamic is priced at THB 1.325 million (RM169,000 approximately), making it almost RM20,000 cheaper than the mid-spec Seal Premium variant, which is tagged at THB 1.449 million (RM185,000 approximately) during its launch.

Should SDM apply the same pricing convention as our Northern neighbour, we can expect the new BYD Seal Dynamic variant to be priced just under the RM160,000 mark in our market, given that the Seal Premium currently retails at RM179,800. This will instantly make the Seal Dynamic the cheapest midsize EV saloon on sale in our market, dethroning the GWM Ora 07 (from RM169,800) in the process.
So folks, what do you think of the upcoming BYD Seal Dynamic? Could this baseline variant possibly be the cheapest EV saloon on sale in our market? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
