BYD’s 9 Millionth Car Is Reasonably Priced Yangwang U9 EV Supercar
Chinese auto giant BYD announced in 2023 that it had manufactured its five millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV), becoming the first automaker in the world to achieve such a feat. The BYD Denza N7, a fully electric car with autonomous driving capabilities, was the five millionth NEV from the carmaker to roll off the assembly line last year.
On July 4, this year, BYD commemorated two significant dates in the company's global expansion: the opening of its Thailand plant and the production of its eighth millionth new energy vehicle, the BYD Dolphin in Rayong, Thailand.
With the 9 millionth electric vehicle (EV) rolling off its assembly line today, BYD Auto has made history once again. What's special, this 9 millionth car is the Yangwang U9 supercar.

Priced at 1.68 million yuan (MYR992k), the U9 is the second EV from Yangwang, a BYD subsidiary. The supercar is a part of the lineup that also includes the U8 off-road SUV and the U7 sedan, which was unveiled at the April Beijing Auto Show this year.
The cabernet red supercar is the fastest vehicle produced by the company to date. With four electric motors that have a combined power of 960 kW, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds and reach a top speed of 309 km/h. Additionally, the U9 features a Disus X suspension system that offers the user total control over the body.
The nine millionth BYD new energy vehicle uses an 80 kWh iron phosphate blade lithium iron battery, capable of delivering a range of up to 450 km, in order to support high performance. In addition, this vehicle has 500 kW of fast charging capability, meaning that it can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in just ten minutes.
According to BYD, the supercar features the largest monocoque carbon cabin in the world and is the first mass-produced model in China to use carbon fiber body structural parts. It is said that the substance is five to six times more robust than steel.
Given how quickly BYD is producing NEVs, it might not be long until the company produces its ten millionth NEV. In fact, BYD was able to move 2,328,449 NEVs between January and August 2024, representing a 29.92% increase from the previous year.
