Malaysia-bound Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Detailed – CKD, 1.6 TGDi Heart, Q2 Launch Planned

Besides expanding its network, Chery Malaysia is set to introduce three new models in 2024 and the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is amongst them.
As detailed in our earlier report, Chery Malaysia is set for another big year in 2024. Both its nationwide network and products line-up will be expanded, the latter featuring no less than three new models.
One of which is the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which the firm initially previewed in late 2022 alongside the Omoda 5, Tiggo 8 Pro, and TIggo 4 Pro. In the words of Chery Malaysia’s top execs, the Tiggo 7 Pro is poised to “bridge the gap” between the compact Omoda 5 and three-row Tiggo 8 Pro.

Initial specifications of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro released by Chery Malaysia earlier today.
During the press briefing the firm held earlier today, initial specs for the Tiggo 7 Pro were revealed. Chery Malaysia’s also confirmed that it will be locally assembled (CKD) – just like the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro – followed by an official launch in the second quarter (Q2).
From what we’ve grasped through a presentation slide, the Malaysia-bound Tiggo 7 Pro will not feature a hybrid powertrain as initially speculated. Instead, a familiar 1.6-litre 4-cyl direct-injected and turbocharged (TGDi) mill will be at the heart of this C-segment fighter.
Said 1.6 TGDi mill, which boasts respectable outputs of 197 HP and 290 NM, gets paired with a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT) box. Drive presumably goes to the front wheels, promising 0-100 KM/H sprints in equally respectable 8.3 seconds too.

The Tiggo 7 Pro from Chery Malaysia's initial preview in late 2022. This C-segment fighter promises to bridge the gap between the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro.

For its powertrain, the Tiggo 7 Pro will adopt a 1.6-litre TGDi 4-cyl turbo petrol heart paired with a 7-speed DCT automatic box.
Powertrain aside, Chery Malaysia also confirmed a slew of high-end features that will form the model’s kit list – much of which mirrors what’s already seen in the larger Tiggo 8 Pro. Highlights include 18-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, as well as ventilated front seats.
As for tech, the cabin is set to get a 24.6-inch dual digital display module that’s paired with an 8-speaker Sony hi-fi audio suite plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There will also be an ultra-wide (540-degree) parking camera equipped.

On board, the Tiggo 7 Pro will feature digital dual displays boasting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-speaker Sony hi-fi audio, ventilated front seats, and more.
Crucially, Chery Malaysia also promised no less than 17 active driving assist (ADAS) features present, likely promising Level 2 semi-autonomous driving abilities. This also perhaps aided in the Tiggo 7 Pro in garnering a full 5-star ANCAP crash-test rating recently.
Apart from which, Chery Malaysia didn’t release any further details. In all likelihood, Chery Malaysia looks set to adopt a similar strategy as the Tiggo 8 Pro model by offering just one single variant, and it should pack all the features we just detailed above.

The Tiggo 7 Pro is set to officially launch by Q2 this year, and it promises a tempting price tag. Expect a figure that puts this Chinese fighter in between the Proton X70 and things like the Honda CR-V.
As for price, your guess is as good as ours. Given how Chery Malaysia priced the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro, expect the upcoming Tiggo 7 Pro to sit in between the Proton X70 and the likes of the recently launched Honda CR-V, as well as the upcoming Mazda CX-5 facelift.
What do you folks reckon then? Could this be the value-for-money C-segment SUV for you later this year? Or would you rather wait for the unnamed third new model that Chery hinted for debut much later in the final quarter (Q4)? As always, hit the comments below with your take…
