BYD M6 Launch Set For Oct 15 Priced From RM115,000?
BYD is set to launch its highly anticipated M6 6-seater electric MPV in Malaysia on Oct 15, following successful debuts in neighbouring Thailand and Indonesia.
The M6, essentially a facelift of the BYD e6, is expected to be priced at RM115,000 for the entry-level variant. Said figure positions it between the standard BYD Dolphin (RM100,000) and the Dolphin Extended (RM125,000).
With its spacious 6-seat layout and extended range, the M6 is poised to offer a compelling family-friendly alternative in Malaysia's growing EV market. At the same time, it’s set to offer an electrified alternative to its segment rival the Nissan Serena or even the Perodua Alza, Toyota Veloz and Mitsubishi Xpander.
In Thailand, the M6 is available in two variants: the M6 Dynamic and the M6 Extended. The latter features a 71.8 kWh LFP Blade battery that delivers up to 530 KM of claimed range, whereas the former sees a smaller 55.4 kWh battery and lower range of 420 KM.
The M6 Extended variant is powered by a 150 kW (201 HP) electric motor, while the Dynamic variant features a 120 kW (161 HP) motor. Both are equipped with BYD's renowned Blade battery packs, ensuring robust safety and longevity.
The M6 also supports 115 kW DC fast charging, enabling a full charge from 0% to 100% in just 80 minutes. As standard comes 7 kW AC charging.
Inside, the M6 provides three-row seating for six passengers, offering decent legroom and comfort. Noteworthy features include a panoramic glass roof, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, and a 12.8-inch rotating multimedia touchscreen, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Additional highlights include a power tailgate with remote control, automatic air conditioning with vents for rear passengers, and BYD’s 8-in-1 powertrain system.
With its competitive pricing, the BYD M6 is expected to appeal to families and urban dwellers seeking an affordable yet well-equipped EV MPV. Its pricing places it strategically between the BYD Dolphin variants, raising questions about whether BYD will revise the Dolphin’s pricing in Malaysia, especially given the M6’s larger battery capacity and longer range while still seating six passengers.
Similarly in Thailand, BYD slashed prices for the Dolphin from RM93,000 to RM72,000 in Standard range form, and from RM114,000 to RM 90,000 for the Extended range model.
The M6 will most likely feature a comprehensive warranty package similar to all BYD Cars Malaysia’s offering - 6-year/150,000 KM base vehicle warranty, along with an 8-year/160,000 KM EV battery and EV component warranties.
As BYD continues to expand its presence in Malaysia, the M6’s launch reflects the company’s commitment to providing diverse, accessible, and technologically advanced EV options for the local market.
