BYD Shark Makes Asian Market Debut In Cambodia

Cambodian BYD distributors Harmony Auto officially launched the BYD Shark (known as the BYD Shark 6) recently, making it the first in Asia to welcome the PHEV pick-up truck.
Chinese NEV-making giants BYD have reportedly launched its ground-breaking Shark model in Cambodia recently. This marks the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck’s first debut in an Asian market after it was first revealed and launched in Mexico.
Said ASEAN nation now joins Brazil, Panama and aforementioned Mexico to see the model go on sale officially. Australia is set to be the next market to receive the BYD Shark where the model will also debut in right-hand-drive (RHD) form for the first time.

For the Cambodian market, the BYD Shark 6 commands a starting price of US$56,700 (approx. RM247,646.26).
For the Cambodian market, the BYD Shark is actually called the BYD Shark 6, and it commands a starting price of roughly US$56,700 – approx. RM247,646.26. Factors such as left-hand-drive (LHD) status and tough non-urban terrains perhaps led to its fast-tracked arrival in Cambodia.
Ironically, the BYD Shark remains unavailable in its native home market of China. This, according to CarNewsChina further, largely stems from major restrictions enforced by most major Chinese cities on pick-up trucks in particular.

For Cambodian buyers, distributors Harmony Auto are offering a slew of incentives including fuel cards, free maintenance, as well as a home wallbox charger.
Back to Cambodia, the BYD Shark 6 was officially launched there by the Chinese NEV-making giant’s distributors Harmony Auto. Besides the starting priced mentioned earlier, said firm also offers incentives such as US$500 fuel cards, 3-year or 50,000 KM free maintenance, a 7 kW home wallbox charger, as well as an 8-year or 160,000 KM warranty.
As a refresher, the BYD Shark debuted globally back in May this year in Mexico featuring a high-powered and efficient plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain package. Like what BYD primes in the luxurious Fang Cheng Bao 5 4x4 SUV, the package consists of a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol mill plus a pair of e-motors (one for each axle) and a sizeable 29.58 kWh Blade LFP battery.

As a refresher, the BYD Shark 6 packs a powerfully efficient PHEV powertrain setup offering 430 HP and 650 NM plus up to 840 KM (NEDC) combined range and up to 100 KM of pure-electric drive.

Added electrification also sees the BYD Shark 6 boasts built-in V2L (Vehicle-to-load) capabilities, granting greater flexibility for this pick-up truck.
Altogether, the setup’s combined outputs read at 430 HP (320 KW) and 650 NM. The electrifications also brings to the table up to 100 KM of pure-electric range plus a total combined range of up to 840 KM (NEDC) with each full battery charge and full fill-up of its fuel tank.
Being a pick-up truck, the BYD Shark 6 also boasts respectable all-terrain abilities whilst boasting a sizeable 1,450-litre capacity flatbed, 835 KG payload capacity, as well as a 2,500 KG maximum towing capacity.
Critically, added electrification also brings V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capability, which sees the BYD Shark 6 able to function as a power supply for camping equipment, household appliances, or as an emergency power source as well.
