Govt Constantly Working To Improve RFID System To Reduce Issues - Ahmad Maslan
Since its implementation on Malaysia's major highways in 2018, the RFID system for toll payments has attracted widespread criticism for the system's continued issues, which cause congestion at toll plazas.
Highway concessionaires have been performing more frequent fine-tuning work at toll plaza lanes to ensure seamless operation, while authorities have reportedly been working hard to address the matter since, according to Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan.
According to Maslan, Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (Touch ‘n Go), which aims to have four million RFID customers by the end of 2024, has also been informing users to ensure that their Touch ‘n Go eWallet balance is adequate before they enter a toll plaza.
Maslan responded to Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah), who questioned the government's plans to address the RFID system's inefficiencies, by stating that concessionaires are also keeping an eye on whether more RFID lanes are necessary in real time. He also mentioned that there are currently 580 RFID lanes at toll plazas across the country, out of 2,348 lanes in total.
