Honda Unveils Two Electric Motorcycle Concepts at EICMA 2024

Honda has unveiled both the EV Fun and EV Urban electric motorcycle concept models at EICMA 2024.
As the biggest motorcycle show in the world the Milan Motorcycle Shows (EICMA) has always been the de facto stage for major motorcycle manufacturers to strut their latest stuff. For this year’s edition, Japanese manufacturer Honda not only displays some of its latest combustion-powered motorcycles but also two all-electric concepts, cordially known as the Honda EV Fun and Honda EV Urban.

Honda EV Fun concept electric motorcycle
Starting with the former, the EV Fun concept is essentially Honda’s attempt to create an all-electric version of its naked sports bike, the Honda CB series, or commonly known as the Hornet. Targeted towards enthusiasts and motorheads alike, the EV Fun boasts a single-sided swingarm, while its overall design looks very similar to your typical naked sports bike, except for the weirdly-protruded ‘box’ that is in place of a combustion engine.

Honda EV Urban electric scooter concept
As for the EV Urban, this all-electric maxi scooter concept looks like a very promising contender to the BMW CE 04, albeit the former somehow looks more conventional and less cyberpunk-esque, in a good way that is. Besides its typical maxi scooter front face, the EV Urban appears to sport a similar belt-driven drivetrain system as the CE 04, which is something you expect to see on high-end, high-powered maxi scooters.

Although not many powertrain details were shared by Honda, the Japanese marque did mention that the EV Fun can be charged using a conventional CCS2 plug, which means that it will support some form of DC fast charging capabilities. Apart from that, the battery pack used on the EV Fun is also good enough to provide this fun-looking EV bike with more than 100 KM of travel range, which Honda reckons to be sufficient for city use.
Unfortunately, no details were disclosed regarding the EV Urban’s powertrain specs, but given how both bikes look somewhat identical in shapes and sizes, perhaps we can expect this e-scooter to use the same EV setup as its sportier-looking twin.
Battery specs aside, what’s bizarre about these two EV bike concepts is that neither of them use Honda’s proprietary Mobile Power Pack e: battery-swapping technology. Besides commercial e-scooters such as the Honda Benly e:, Honda has also been using this battery-swapping system in several other applications, such as small construction machinery and small boats, to name a few.

With all that being said, Honda is still optimistic about the future of its two new concept e-bikes, with the manufacturer slated to enter the EV Fun into production as early as 2025. Along with the EV Urban, these two e-bikes will be part of the 30 electric models that Honda Motor plans to launch by the end of this decade.
So folks, what do you think of these two new e-bike concepts by Honda? Could their production versions carry any weight to go against the likes of the BMW CE 04 and many other production EV bikes out there? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
