JMR Set For Reorganisation As A “Home-Based” Racing Team

Prince Jefri Ibrahim, team leader and lead driver for the JMR racing team, took to Instagram recently to reveal a new direction for the team.
Tunku Panglima Johor, YAM Tunku Abdul Rahman ibni Sultan Ibrahim, better known as Prince Jefri Ibrahim, took to his official Instagram page this week revealing a new direction for the Johor Motorsport Racing (JMR) team that he both leads and drives for.
Up to this point, JMR has competed under the Triple Eight JMR banner in several international racing series and championships across the region. This effort sees JMR partnering with renowned race-winning Australian motorsports firm Triple Eight Race Engineering.
From what we can gather, JMR’s six-year long partnership with Triple Eight is set to conclude by end of this year. Starting 2025 onwards, JMR’s focus will instead shift towards becoming a “home-based” team, says Prince Jefri through his lengthy Instagram post.
He added that the aim of this shift was to “help nurture local talent in every aspect of motorsports in Malaysia, and supporting growth from right here at home.” Prince Jefri also noted the personal importance of this direction, and that it was his main aim “from the very beginning.”

Up to this point, JMR has competed strongly through its partnership with Australia's renowned Triple Eight Race Engineering. This partnership is set to conclude by year-end as JMR looks to establish itself as a "home-based" team.
No specific details of this shift, or the timeline for which, was stated as yet. However, a major reorganisation of JMR as a racing entity is expected to come, and this could include major personnel changes, as well as changes in its competition campaigns.
From what was expressed by Prince Jefri, we could perhaps see an influx of local Malaysians staffed into the team as a start. As to where JMR will race next, this remains uncertain for now, but we won’t discount the possibility of seeing it continue competing abroad as it does now.

Under its Triple Eight JMR banner, the team already competes abroad using customer-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
Through its existing partnership with Triple Eight, JMR races with customer-spec Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in regional championship series and events like GT World Challenge Asia and the Intercontinental GT Challenge, amongst others.
Besides pairing up with top-tier international drivers, Prince Jefri races for JMR himself as its lead driver. Racing alongside him too is his brother Tunku Putera Johor, YAM Tunku Abu Bakar ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
