Gov't Chooses MyBorderPass For Faster Clearance At JB-SG Land Checkpoints
For quicker immigration clearance at the two land checkpoints with Singapore, Malaysian bus and motorcycle passengers will soon only need to use the MyBorderPass app. This comes after the government approved one app out of three that were put on trial: MyBorderPass, MyRentas, and MyTrip.
Motorcyclists and bus passengers have been using the MyTrip app since June when they travel through the Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex (KSAB) at the Second Link. Bus passengers at Johor Baru's Bangunan Sultan Iskandar CIQ (BSI) utilised MyRentas, while motorbike riders used MyBorderPass, equipped with facial recognition and QR code .
According to the Star, the two bus lanes at BSI were integrated with MyBorderPass as of midnight yesterday, and facial recognition will be added later.
A Home Ministry representative noted that BSI has six motorbike lanes, three entering and three exiting, that employ MyBorderPass. MyTrip is anticipated to be phased down at KSAB, with plans to replace it with MyBorderPass in the coming days.
The QR code system for cars and lorries is still at the proof-of-concept stage because it involves numerous passengers in a single vehicle, according to Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, head of the state works, transportation, infrastructure, and communications committee.
He says that, like autogates, the state wants to make facial recognition and QR code technology available to all international visitors. He added that the state government wants to put in place a system that makes it easier for people to move about, particularly in light of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone's impending establishment.
