MOT Looking Into Proposal For Multi-Storey Driver Training Centre To Address backlog

The Dewan Negara was informed yesterday that in order to address the increasing backlog of driving lesson applications in Kuala Lumpur, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) is considering a plan to establish a multi-storey driving instruction complex.

The proposal needs to be carefully examined to determine whether it is feasible to include crucial driving training components—like learning to drive, safe stopping, hill climbing and descending, and other essential components—into a multi-story building, according to Deputy Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah. “The proposal, complete with designs and a multi-storey structure concept, has been submitted to us. However, we are still in the process of evaluating the suitability of the location and the potential impact on the effectiveness of this project,“ he said.

In response to Senator Datuk Salehuddin Saidin's inquiry about whether the government would take into account applications from driving schools to conduct training in smaller spaces or multi-storey buildings, Hasbi clarified that the study would also look at the proposal's adherence to safety regulations and its efficiency in generating skilled drivers.

The deputy minister characterised the proposal as a good concept in response to a similar query about if the government would think about offering incentives to driving colleges that are having problems with their operations, such as higher expenses.
