Pahang Hopes To Be East Coast EV Production Hub
Pahang aims to be the East Coast's centre for EV assembly and manufacture, according to Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib, chairman of the State Investment, Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation Committee.
According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia's most recent data, EV sales have skyrocketed. In the first half of 2024, 10,663 EVs were sold, which is twice as many as the 4,409 EVs sold during the same period in 2023, he added.

“The surge in EV usage marks a clear shift in the automotive market. In fact, states on the West Coast such as Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have become the choice of electric vehicle manufacturers to build assembly and manufacturing plants due to logistics factors.
“We also want to see Pahang become a hub for the assembly and manufacturing of electric vehicles in the East Coast. If logistics is a major criterion, then we will strengthen the promotion of the logistics network and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) which connects Port Klang and Kuantan Port,” Mohamad Nizar said when winding up yesterday’s 2025 Pahang budget debate at the State Legislative Assembly.
Further, Mohamad Nizar disclosed that Perbadanan Setiausaha Kerajaan Pahang and the organisation has worked hand in hand this year to build 50 EV charging stations around Pahang, with an anticipated RM250 million expenditure.
