BYD has recently launched the M6 in Thailand, following its debut in Indonesia at the GIIAS 2024 event. Two variants of this EV MPV are available in Thailand: the M6 Extended, priced at THB 929,900 (RM120,000) and the M6 Dynamic, at THB 829,900 (MYR 107,000).
The M6 is essentially a facelift of the BYD e6, which was initially planned for the Malaysian market as an electrified taxi fleet but did not materialise. This mid-size EV MPV retains its signature 6-seater layout, offering a spacious, family-friendly design.
In Thailand, BYD vehicles are distributed by the Rever Group, in which BYD recently acquired a 20% stake. This partnership has also paved the way for BYD to establish its first Southeast Asian factory in Thailand, with an investment worth USD 490 million (RM2.1 billion).
Mr. Liu Xuexiang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, emphasised the importance of Thailand as a key market, citing the registration of 17,402 units in the first seven months of 2024. This contributed to BYD's global sales of 717,600 units.
The BYD M6 is a fully electric MPV designed to meet the needs of modern families. It features a sleek, contemporary design, enhanced driving performance, and a host of intelligent functions aimed at convenience. Deliveries to Thai consumers are scheduled to begin in September 2024.
The M6 Extended is powered by a 150kW motor and a 71.8 kWh LFP Blade battery, offering a range of up to 530 KM on a single charge. Meanwhile, the M6 Dynamic features a 120kW motor and a 55.4 kWh LFP battery, providing a range of up to 420 KM.
Inside, the M6 boasts a three-row seating layout that accommodates up to six passengers. It comes with a panoramic glass roof and a 12.8-inch multimedia touchscreen, which can rotate both vertically and horizontally. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Additional conveniences include a power tailgate with remote control, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, and automatic air conditioning with vents for the second and third rows.
In terms of technology, the M6 features an 8-in-1 powertrain system that supports 115 kW DC charging, allowing a full charge from 0% to 100% in just 80 minutes. It also supports 7 kW AC charging. The standard V2L (vehicle-to-load) system allows the car to supply power to external devices.
BYD offers the M6 in Thailand with an 8-year/160,000 km vehicle and EV battery warranty, as well as an 8-year/150,000 km EV drivetrain and component warranty.
