Mazda 6e EV Saloon Unveiled as Europe’s Version of the EZ-6

The Mazda EZ-6 EV saloon will be known as the Mazda 6e in the European market, set to go on sale in late 2025.
Mazda is poised to launch yet another EV model in the European market, this time being the rebadged version of its new midsize EV saloon, the Mazda EZ-6. In the EU, however, this sleek all-electric sedan will be known as the Mazda 6e, where it will go on sale sometime in late 2025.

From the images provided, we can see that the Mazda 6e looks identical to its Chinese counterpart, as both models get the same sporty sedan design that accentuates Mazda’s signature Kodo design language that has donned many of its cars in recent years.

Key design features primed here include the illuminated front grille whose lights flutter when the car is charging, frameless doors with flushed handles, a low and sleek roofline with thick C-pillars giving a fastback look, a hidden active rear spoiler on the tailgate, and full-width LED taillights, to name a few. The only notable difference between the EU’s 6e and China’s EZ-6 lies at the rear, as the former dons a ‘6e’ emblem.

Many have known that Mazda didn’t make the EZ-6 by itself, as the Hiroshima-based marque co-developed this sleek EV saloon with Chinese automaker Changan Automobile through its Changan Mazda joint venture. As a result, most of the EZ-6’s mechanical bits are ‘borrowed’ from Changan, which includes the Changan EPA1 platform it underpins, as well as the whole powertrain setup.
The same can be said for the EU-bound 6e, as it gets the same powertrain setup as its Chinese counterpart, minus the range-extender EV (REEV) option. For the European market, Mazda will offer the 6e exclusively with two rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain options with two different battery capacities.

Starting with the baseline model, it features a 68.8-kWh battery pack that promises to deliver up to 483 KM of maximum EV range, as well as supporting DCFC at up to 200 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge to be completed in 22 minutes. Said battery powers its 255 HP-rated RWD motor setup, allowing this sleek EV saloon to go from 0-100 KM/H in 7.6 seconds.
Those with range anxieties and less care for performance may opt for the extended range variant, as it gets a larger 80-kWh battery pack, which stretches its maximum EV range to 555 KM, at the expense of a slower 10-80% charging time of 45 minutes via the same 200 kW DCFC. Interestingly, the long-range model also gets a less peppy RWD motor setup, as its 241 HP-rated unit is only good for a 7.8-second century sprint time.

While both its range and sprint performance may not be enough to topple down the Tesla Model 3 in the EU, we’d reckon the 6e’s posh-looking and less spartan cabin might be its stronger selling points over the reigning Americans. Primed here include a massive 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, a smaller 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, plus a liberal use of premium materials—all packaged in a pretty ergonomical, driver-centric way in line with Mazda’s ‘Jinba Ittai’ philosophy.

Given that the Mazda 6e is poised to go on sale later this year, Mazda has yet to give any pricing details for this sleek EV saloon. More importantly, the 6e will also be heading to the UK market in early 2026, meaning that a right-hand drive (RHD) version is on the horizon. So, Malaysia next?
