Free Train Rides For 2 Days During Thaipusam Celebration
In an effort to facilitate smoother travel during the upcoming Thaipusam celebration, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has announced that it will be providing a 24-hour train service starting from February 9th and running through February 12th.
The service, which will be offered at all KTM Komuter stations in the Klang Valley, will also provide free rides on February 10th and 11th, with the goal of alleviating congestion and ensuring that both devotees and the general public can conveniently enjoy Thaipusam, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
KTMB will add 44 additional trips each day to the regular 96 trips, bringing the total number of trips for this celebration to 140, notably on Saturday, when devotees are expected to peak.
“In total, over the four days and three nights, 118 additional services will be provided, bringing the total number of trips during this period to 494,” Loke announced.
Additional trains will run after the regular last train each day, beginning at 9.55 p.m. from Pulau Sebang to Batu Caves and 9.30 p.m. from Klang to Batu Caves. KL Sentral commuters will benefit from more frequent services, which will run every 30 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m., rather than the typical one-hour frequency.
In order to prepare for the anticipated 500,000 passengers using the rail service, the minister added that KTMB has been working since early January to guarantee seamless travel for worshippers going to Kuala Selangor, the Sri Subramaniar Temple, and Batu Caves.
Passengers are also urged to plan their journeys ahead by preparing a valid payment option, such as a debit card, credit card, or Touch 'n Go card, to prevent delays at the station.
