Zeekr Completes Merger with Lynk & Co – Now Known as Zeekr Group
Zeekr has completed its merger with sister brand Lynk & Co to form Zeekr Group.
Months after the first rumours broke out, Chinese premium EV brand Zeekr has now confirmed its merger with sister brand Lynk & Co. According to its official statement, the new entity will be known as Zeekr Group, where 51% of its stake is being held by Zeekr, while the remaining 49% belongs to Geely.
From the official statement, Zeekr Group hopes that this merger will enable better synergies between both the Zeekr and Lynk & Co brands, plus a better management of resources in developing its own software system, e-powertrain and EV supply chain. More importantly, it will also help to reduce costs in research and development by 10-20% and fuel its ambition to become a global new energy mobility solution provider.
As with any other merger, we can expect this union to bring a certain level of streamlining and integration, so expect a more cohesive operation in both business and sales in certain international markets. Speaking of markets, the company also said that some market operations will follow a “one market, one strategy” approach, where their sales and marketing strategies will be aligned with local preferences and demands.
Despite these unifications and integrations, Zeekr Group insisted that both Zeekr and Lynk & Co will continue to have their own identity, where the former will be positioned as the more luxurious of the two, with a strong focus on mid-to-large electric or hybrid models. Meanwhile, Lynk & Co will instead focus on creating premium electrified products ranging from small EVs to midsize hybrids.
The Zeekr Group also aims to sell 710,000 units of vehicles - Zeekr 320,000 units and Lynk & Co 390,000 units. Overseas store expansion is also set at over 200 outlets.
It was previously rumoured that Zeekr will take the lead in the development of new EVs and connected vehicle technology, although the research will be shared across both brands. With that being said, the company did confirm that it will introduce a total of five new models this year, with three coming from Zeekr and two from Lynk & Co.
Zeekr 007 GT EV wagon
Included in the five upcoming models are both the previously teased Zeekr 007 GT EV wagon and the Lynk & Co 900 full-sized SUV. On top of that, several market-specific models like the Zeekr 7X will also be heading into the overseas market, with Malaysia reportedly included on the list.
