JPJ Seizes Mercedes-Benz CLS in Crackdown on Overloading
A Mercedes-Benz CLS was seized by the Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) during a special operation targeting overloaded heavy vehicles. What was supposed to be a routine operation led to officers discovering that the luxury vehicle's road tax had expired way back on Sept 6, 2023.
This led to JPJ Melaka impounding the vehicle under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. In addition, the driver could face additional charges under Section 23(1) for failing to renew road tax and Section 90(1) for not having valid insurance.
The operation, which ran from midnight to 9 AM on March 13, primarily aimed at catching overloaded heavy vehicles across various locations in Melaka.
A total of 174 vehicles were inspected, with 39 ordered to undergo weighing under Section 63(1) of APJ 1987 and Section 82(2) of the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010.
Out of those, 38 were found to be overloaded, while one vehicle failed to show up for weighing, earning its driver a notice under Section 63(1) of APJ 1987 for failing to comply with orders.
Additionally, JPJ Melaka issued a total of 128 compound notices for various traffic violations detected during the operation. Authorities emphasized that strict enforcement would continue to ensure road safety and compliance, particularly among heavy vehicle operators.
JPJ Melaka also urged companies, vehicle owners, and commercial drivers to follow transportation laws and step up their safety measures. Keeping roads safe isn’t just about avoiding fines - it’s about protecting everyone who shares the road.
