25 Chery Cars Distributed, 200+ Vehicles Secured for Fire Victims

In a compassionate response to the recent devastating gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Chery Corporate Malaysia (Chery) has begun delivering the promised temporary relief vehicles to affected residents.
Today, 25 victims received a car each for their use over the next month, with another 25 vehicles set to be handed over by next Tuesday. The cars would be a mix of the brands popular Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Vehicle assignment is handled by representatives of the Selangor State Exco.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, speaking at a press conference at the Putra Heights Mosque, expressed gratitude to Chery for their swift action - “This shows a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. Chery is not only prioritising road safety but also the well-being of communities in times of crisis.”

He also went on to thank Chery for not only fulfilling its promise, but also for their added contribution of RM100 in fuel money for each vehicle recipient.
The initiative is part of Chery’s broader vehicle loan programme, which aims to ease transportation woes for families impacted by the explosion. The blast, which occurred earlier this week, displaced 305 families, damaged 237 houses, and affected 365 vehicles — including 275 cars and 56 motorcycles.
Chery Malaysia Executive VP Leo Chen personally handed over the first batch of 25 SUVs earlier today. The company also made a RM50,000 donation to the Putra Heights Mosque to help cover utility costs as the mosque continues to serve as a key relief centre.

Selangor State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility, Ng Sze Han, also highlighted the timely nature of the handover - “With school and work resuming next week, this car handover comes at the right time to help victims facing transportation difficulties. More cars will be delivered in the next two to three days as a show of solidarity with those affected.
“This shows a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. Chery is not only prioritising road safety but also the well-being of communities in times of crisis,” added Amirudin.

The initiative is being coordinated in collaboration with the Selangor State Government, including the offices of State Exco YB Ng Sze Han, Digital Minister Gobind Singh, and local authorities to ensure streamlined distribution of the vehicles.
To date, in addition to Chery’s 50-vehicle contribution, other automotive and mobility companies have stepped include Carro’s pledge of 30 cars, Carsome 50 cars, GoCar 20 cars and DRB-Hicom (EON) 62 cars — bringing the total to over 200 cars made available for temporary use.
Additionally, Proton has also pledged to donate RM250,000 in aid and free vehicle assessments to support the victims.
