During the recent celebration of the Road Transport Department's (JPJ) 77th Anniversary, Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke, announced a significant enhancement to the driver’s licencing process in Malaysia.

Currently, all candidates applying for a driving licence are required to complete and pass the Kurikulum Pendidikan Pemandu (KPP) Module 01. This module covers essential areas such as road regulations, safe driving practices, road safety, vehicle management, and common traffic offences.

Under the present system, the KPP01 theory module is conducted separately for motorcycle and car licence classes. This means candidates who already hold a motorcycle licence and wish to apply for a car licence must retake the KPP01 module, even though the content overlaps in several areas.

To streamline the process, Loke highlighted that this requirement will soon be abolished. As part of the policy improvement first introduced in 2023, both motorcycle and car KPP01 modules will now be consolidated into a single, integrated theory module starting Aug, 2025.

The introduction of this integrated module aims to strengthen the emphasis on safe driving practices, while also reducing duplication in learning materials. Candidates pursuing both classes of vehicle licences will only need to attend one theory class under this improved structure.

In addition to improving the learning experience, this change is expected to help reduce the overall cost of obtaining a driving licence. The integrated approach will also ensure candidates receive more focused and effective instruction on key safety elements applicable to both motorcycles and cars.

The new integrated module is expected to be implemented by the end of this year. JPJ will release further details on the conditions, implementation methods, and operational procedures in due course.
