Malaysia and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the railway sector. The agreement was signed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, and China's Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The MoU, signed on Wednesday, will see the two countries share best practices and collaborate on railway projects.
The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including the development of the rail sector, sharing best practices, implementing joint projects, arranging conferences and training sessions, and facilitating exchange visits between officials and experts.

"This effort paves the way for technology transfer, investment in public transportation systems, and enhanced railway operational efficiency in Malaysia. It is also expected to support the sustainable development agenda by providing an eco-friendly and highly competitive transport system," the statement read.
The partnership aims to improve the national transportation network and increase both domestic and regional connectivity, which will benefit the country as a whole. This aligns with the Transport Ministry's goals, as they believe that China's investment and expertise can help Malaysia create an efficient, inclusive, and modern transportation system.
For the record, a total of 31 MoUs and exchange documents were signed between ministries and agencies on Wednesday, demonstrating a strong commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the construction of infrastructure and modern transportation systems.
