Roadside Panther Attack Injures Lorry Driver In Negeri Sembilan
A lorry driver in his 50s was injured following a roadside panther attack that occurred yesterday along the Jalan Bukit Tangga-Seremban B-road stretch in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan. According to Bernama, the lorry driver was attacked whilst stopped on the roadside to relieve himself.
The incident was also caught on a dashcam by a motorist that happen to be passing by. In it, we see the lorry driver getting mauled by the panther before said wildlife retreated in the forest after likely being startled by the dashcam vehicle’s arrival. Said video has since gone viral too.
“The victim was attached on the head by a panther, which emerged from a nearby forest before fleeing back into the woods,” said Negeri Sembilan state Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Faizal Izham Pikri to Bernama yesterday.
Screengrabs of the viral dashcam footage showing the lorry driver getting mauled by a panther before said wildlife retreated into the forest.
Faizal also confirmed that the victim was quickly transported to thew Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital from treatment. The extent of the lorry driver’s injuries weren’t detailed, but it’s clear that he has perhaps dodged a far worse fate – panther attacks have proven to be deadly in the past.
Though Negeri Sembilan Perhilitan have increased their patrols on the area, its director Faizal urges road users to remain vigilant when travelling through known wildlife corridors as such. He adds motorists should immediate contact authorities should they encounter wild animals here.
