Xpeng’s New SEPA3.0 Promises Faster Charging and 1,400 KM Hybrid Range

Xpeng hosted its 2025 Brand Night recently, which we are fortunately attending. During its Xpeng Global Experience Day - "Driven by Passion" briefing, the Chinese marque offered an exclusive technical walkthrough of its next-generation SEPA3.0 platform.
For those who follow the EV space, Xpeng’s current line-up, including the G6 and the recently launched X9, all underpin its previous SEPA2.0 platform. We’ll add the brand is presently imported and distributed in Malaysia by Bermaz Xpeng Sdn. Bhd.
These models are renowned for their 800-volt architecture, which in turn explains how the SEPA2.0 base allows ultra-fast DC charging. This is evident in models like the G6, which can charge from 20% to 80% in under 20 minutes thanks to its 280 kW charging capability.
The upcoming SEPA3.0 successor, on the other hand, promises to take things to an entirely new level. During the session, it was revealed that SEPA3.0 will replace SEPA2.0 for future models. While the platform continues to use an 800-volt setup, it will deliver improved efficiency, longer range, and faster charging.
One of the key breakthroughs is the platform’s ability to support both Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEV) formats. In BEV form, the system is expected to offer up to 430 KM of range on a single charge. In REEV configuration, Xpeng claims the combined driving range can reach an impressive 1,400 KM.
Charging speed has also been improved dramatically. Thanks to a 5C ultra-fast charging rate, the battery can go from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. That’s a significant step up from the already fast charge times offered by the current G6 and X9.
Xpeng has also paid close attention to battery safety and durability. The new battery packs come with a protective armour designed to handle extreme external pressure, and it’s reportedly strong enough to withstand the weight of 20 elephants. On top of that, the battery unit boasts IP68 water- and dust-resistance.
Longevity is another area where Xpeng is confident. The company claims the battery will suffer less than 10% capacity loss over seven years of usage, offering peace of mind to owners.
The REEV setup also introduces what Xpeng refers to as an AI-enhanced combustion engine. This engine primarily acts as a range extender and operates so quietly that the increase in cabin noise is only about 1dB when it’s active.
During the event, it was also shared that despite the global shift towards EV, other forms of automotive propulsion - Hybrid and REEV - still remain relevant as it offers a high level of flexibility and real-world usability, especially on long trips.
With SEPA3.0, Xpeng is not just improving performance and charging times but also making a clear case for a smarter blend of electric and hybrid systems.
