DC Handal Expands Open Payment with Touch N’ Go

By now, most of you probably know that DC Handal has pioneered open payment systems for EV charging in Malaysia. Unfortunately, this approach hasn’t really caught on with other charge point operators (CPOs) just yet.
Well, we’ve recently caught wind that DC Handal is stepping things up. Beyond the usual debit and credit card support - as well as Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay - they’re now adding the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet to their list of accepted payment methods.

This is great news for those who prefer to streamline their spending into a single channel or avoid using their credit cards across different terminals.
From what we understand, TNG eWallet payments will soon be available across all DC Handal stations. A few selected locations - like the ones we spotted at Bangsar South’s The Sphere and The Horizon - might be serving as test beds ahead of a wider rollout.

To use it, just select your charger, tap the TNG option instead of Visa or Mastercard, flash your TNG eWallet QR code on the machine’s reader, insert your mobile phone number and plug in the nozzle to start charging.
Once you’re done, simply end the session by selecting stop charging and insert the last 4 digits of your mobile number - easy as that. Before we forget, your TNG eWallet must have a minimum balance of RM150.

During our session, we had some trouble scanning the TNG QR code due to the harsh midday sun reflecting off the phone screen. Since the scanner is positioned below the device, you need to tilt your screen upwards — which can be tricky under bright sunlight. This is definitely something the folks at DC Handal should look into to prevent user frustration.
So with all these payment options on the table, which one do you prefer, and why?
