New EV Alliance Aims to End App Chaos for Malaysian Drivers

Four of Malaysia’s leading Charge Point Operators - chargEV, DC Handal, JomCharge, and CarputZap have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form the eRoaming Hub Alliance. This landmark initiative set to reshape the electric vehicle charging experience across the country.
Collectively managing over 1,000 public charge points, these four CPOs are coming together to remove the fragmentation between charging networks. For EV drivers, this means a future where charging is simple, seamless, and no longer tied to a single app or brand.

At the heart of this collaboration is the formation of a new company, temporarily referred to as The Alliance, which will act as the dedicated technology backbone. Led by representatives from each founding CPO, this entity will be responsible for backend integration, data-sharing protocols, and building the infrastructure needed for cross-network roaming.
Phase one will focus on aligning the four founding CPOs under one interoperable platform. Once complete, phase two will follow, with three additional CPOs expected to join in the coming weeks. This expansion will strengthen nationwide coverage and give drivers broader access to chargers, regardless of operator.

The Alliance is still evaluating whether to introduce a unified app or let users continue using their preferred apps while gaining access to all chargers within the shared network. No matter the direction, the goal remains the same: to make EV charging more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly.
The formation of the Alliance also reflects a collective pushback against the rise of third-party aggregators entering the EV space without contributing real infrastructure. The founding CPOs believe that the industry should be shaped by those who are actively investing in and deploying the network on the ground.

The benefits extend beyond users. For car companies, the Alliance simplifies integration. Instead of working with each CPO individually, automakers can now engage with one central partner. This reduces complexity in technical collaboration, data sharing, and service rollout.
With the launch of the eRoaming Hub Alliance, Malaysia moves closer to a unified and driver-first EV charging ecosystem. Built by the players who have laid the groundwork, this new collaboration sets the stage for a more connected and sustainable mobility future.
