The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is now the fastest production electric vehicle to lap the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Fresh from making its virtual debut on Gran Turismo 7, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra continues to break boundaries, this time snatching the crown from the manic Rimac Nevera to become the fastest production EV to lap the Nurburgring. This production version of the SU7 Ultra clocked an impressive 7 minutes 4.957 seconds around the Green Hell, leaving the Croatian hyper-EV behind by about 0.341 seconds.

Prior to this lap record, Xiaomi had previously fielded the prototype version of the SU7 Ultra, which charted a more impressive lap time of 6 minutes and 46.974 seconds, with said car featuring more aggressive aero bits and a stripped-out interior. Said lap time also puts it in the sub-7-minute category, as does the Volkswagen ID.R prototype, which is to date the fastest EV prototype to lap the ‘Ring.

While the new record puts the SU7 Ultra 18 seconds behind its prototype twin, its lap time is already enough to not only overtake its German muse, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, but also the Rimac Nevera hyper-EV, which previously clocked a 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds lap time.

In a video published by Xiaomi, we can see that the record-breaking SU7 Ultra managed to reach 345 km/h on the long straight of the Nordschleife, which is just 5 km/h shy of its claimed 350 km/h V-max. This feat was made possible thanks to its bonkers tri-motor setup that produces a total system output of 1,527 hp (1,138 kW) and 1,306 Nm, enough to send it from zero to 100 km/h in just 1.89 seconds.

Besides the record-breaking figure, Xiaomi didn’t clarify many details on this impressive run, including the man (or woman) behind the steering wheel of the SU7 Ultra during this feat. However, the Chinese tech giant insisted that the SU7 Ultra used for this record-breaking feat is a production-spec model, albeit fitted with the optional track package.

Commenting on this record-breaking feat, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that this won’t be the last time we see a Xiaomi tearing up the Nürburgring, as the tech giant recently announced a partnership with the track organisation. Through this partnership, Xiaomi will continue to use the Nürburgring as the test bed to develop its future EVs.

To commemorate this partnership, a new "Xiaomi Curve" has been added to the Grand Prix track of the Nurburgring, thus putting the tech giant amongst other legendary automotive brands.
