BYD Achieves 13 Million New Energy Vehicle Production Milestone

BYD has achieved the 13-million-unit NEV production milestone, with the Yangwang U7 becoming its thirteen-millionth NEV.
BYD has recorded yet another production milestone, this time for building its thirteen millionth new energy vehicle (NEV). The thirteen millionth NEV by the Chinese automaker turned out to be the Yangwang U7, a high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan from one of its many premium sub-brands, Yangwang.

What’s more impressive is the fact that this milestone was achieved just eight months after BYD reached its 10 millionth NEV milestone with the Denza Z9 GT back in Nov last year. For context, it took BYD 15 years to build its first five million NEVs, but the next five million units only took 15 months, showcasing rapid progress and technological advancements by the Chinese automaker.

The Yangwang U7 in question, which just rolled off its production plant in Shenzhen, China, is available in both PHEV and full battery electric (BEV) forms, with the former featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine rated at 268 HP (200 kW). The electrification assist comes in the form of a 52.4-kWh battery pack that offers up to 200 km of EV-only range and a combined range of over 1,000 km, BYD claims.
Meanwhile, the BEV version uses a quad-motor setup that delivers a combined output of 1,287 HP (960 kW), enabling a rapid century sprint time of only 2.9 seconds and a V-max of 270 km/h. Juice is provided by a 135.5-kWh battery pack that delivers a CLTC range of up to 720 km.

Just like its other Yangwang siblings, the Yangwang U7 uses BYD’s proprietary DiSus-Z active suspension technology and YiSiFang independent four-motor drive system. The suspension uses electromagnetic actuators instead of hydraulic dampers while featuring rear-wheel steering (RWS) that can turn up to 20 degrees.

Despite its supercar-rivalling performance, the U7 is still a relatively luxurious vehicle, featuring tons of tech amenities and creature comforts. Key highlights include a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen, a larger 23.6-inch 4K naked-eye 3D instrument panel, a separate 23.6-inch screen for the rear passengers, dual refrigerators, a Dynaudio premium audio system, and many more.

In China, the BYD Yangwang U7 retails from CNY 628,000 (RM370,564) for the standard five-seater variant, while the flagship four-seater version is tagged higher at CNY 708,000 (RM417,770).
