Toll Hike Delay Spares Private Car Users Up to 83% in Fare Increase – Nanta

Class 1 car owners would have faced a toll hike of up to 83% if not for the postponed toll rate adjustment, says the Works Minister.
Private car users (Class 1) would have faced a toll hike of up to 83% if not for the postponement of this year’s scheduled toll rate adjustment made by the government, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Alexander Nanta Linggi.
As reported by NST, the minister said the rates for Class 1 vehicles would range from RM0.50 to RM4.56, amounting to about RM136 per month or RM1,632 annually. This projection was based on a private car user travelling on the tolled roads concerned for 20 days a month or 240 days annually.

"For example, a Class 1 vehicle user commuting through the Putrajaya Toll Plaza on the MEX Highway would enjoy savings of RM6.80 for a round-trip commute.
"The concession rate for 2025 is RM6.90, with the current rate at RM3.50. Hence, the user would save RM3.40 per trip and RM6.80 for a round trip,” the minister said at today’s parliament, where he responded to a question posed by Pekan MP Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali on the implications for highway users if the government does not postpone the increase in toll rates this year.
The minister also added that the projected toll rates for Class 2 vehicles would be between RM1.00 and RM6.80, RM1.40 to RM15.30 for Class 3, RM0.20 to RM1.90 for Class 4, and RM0.20 to RM5.70 for Class 5.

The postponement of the scheduled toll rate adjustment for ten highway concessionaires was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week (July 23), where the government will bear a cost of over RM500 million to maintain the current toll rates for these affected highways.
The ten highways are the Cheras-Kajang Expressway (GRANDSAGA), Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR), New North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB), Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE), East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS), Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Maju Expressway (MEX), and the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (LLB).
Nanta also added that this price hike postponement will take effect on all vehicles ranging from Class 1 to Class 5, except on the LLB, where it only applies to Class 5 vehicles, as Classes 1 to 4 have already reached the maximum toll increase rates allowed under the concession agreement.
