Following up from our earlier report on the death of a 19-year-old motorcyclist who plunged off the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) on Saturday, highway operator Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) has announced that it will be introducing additional safety measures.

In a statement, Prolintas expressed condolences to the victim’s family and said that while the highway’s elevated curve sections were designed and certified in accordance with approved specifications, further steps would now be taken to improve safety.

These include the installation of additional fencing, new warning signs at key locations, and expanded public awareness campaigns.

The measures follow the latest incident near the Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari access, where the rider lost control of his Yamaha 135LC while navigating a bend and struck a divider. He was flung off the flyover, falling about 21 metres onto a grassy area below, and died at the scene from severe head injuries.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Witnesses are urged to contact Inspector Nur Iqmal Maisarah Binti Azman at 017-2836851.

This is now the third fatal accident reported on DASH since the highway opened, and the second within just one month.

While Prolintas has stressed that DASH complies with official design standards, the repeated incidents have raised questions over whether current specifications are sufficient to safeguard motorcyclists on elevated highways - or whether motorcycles should be banned from such roads entirely.
