Second-Gen Xpeng P7 Sets New 24-Hour Endurance Record
The newly-launched second-gen Xpeng P7 sets a new 24-hour endurance record, with a total distance of 3,961 km covered.
Within weeks after its global debut, the new, second-gen Xpeng P7 has already set a new record. The new EV saloon has just completed its 24-hour endurance test in China, setting a new record with a total distance of 3,961 km, surpassing the previous record held by the Xiaomi YU7 by 17 km.
This 24-hour endurance test involved continuous high-speed driving and rapid charging, with the vehicle running non-stop while drivers rotated. The test is designed to push EVs to their limits in terms of sustained performance and charging efficiency, with the cars required to drive at speeds of over 200 km/h.
Before the new P7, this endurance record was held by the Xiaomi YU7 Max, which charted a total distance of 3,944 km, while the previous ones were held by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA with 3,717 km clocked in, the Porsche Taycan with 3,425 km, and many more.
During its record-breaking stint, the YU7 Max maintained an average speed of over 210 km/h and underwent 30 charging stops, each lasting about 10-12 minutes. In fact, the decision for the new P7 to undertake this challenge was due to how well the Xiaomi EV SUV performed in the test, with its CEO Lei Jun even having a discussion with Xpeng’s boss He Xiaopeng about the test, CarNewsChina reports.
Back to the record-breaking P7, the automaker didn’t specify which variant of the EV saloon was used in this test. For reference, the new P7 comes with both single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD powertrain specs rated at 362 hp (270 kW) and 586 hp (437 kW), respectively.
Two battery options are available for the new P7, namely the smaller 74.9-kWh LFP unit sourced from Eve Energy and a larger 92.2-kWh ternary NMC battery pack from CALB—the latter reserved for the two Long Range variants. Paired with the single RWD motor, the Long Range variant gets up to 820 km of CLTC range, Xpeng claims.
Thanks to its SEPA 2.0 800-volt architecture, the new P7 supports 5C fast charging with a peak rate of up to 486 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge to be completed in just 11.3 minutes. Xpeng also said that the P7 will get 512 km of range just from a 10-minute charge—a new industry standard, the automaker claims.
