In its official release, the automaker planned to start the production operation at this new Teihoucho plant in the early 2030s, with models to be produced there will only be determined in the future.
The new facility is said to feature “cutting-edge technology and provides an environment where a diverse workforce can thrive,” which is part of the automaker’s "plant of the future" initiative. The automaker also pointed out that it intends to maintain a production capacity of three million vehicles in all of its Japan production facilities.

Once this new plant completes its construction, it will be the sixth vehicle manufacturing plant operated by Toyota in its native soil, with the other five being the flagship Motomachi plant, the Honsha plant, which produces hybrid systems and chassis parts, the Takaoka plant, as well as both the Tsutsumi and Miyoshi plants.

In a separate release, Toyota also announced its financial results for its first quarter for the company’s financial year 2026 (FY Q1 2026), which ran from Apr to June this year. In this period, Toyota has delivered a total of 2.829 million vehicles, which is 7.3% more than the 2.636 million units recorded in the same period last financial year.
Despite this increase, Toyota has forecasted its sales for FY2026 to be identical to FY2025, which is at 11.2 million units globally.
