Newly revealed McLaren 750S JC96 celebrates a unique racing milestone charted by the McLaren F1 GTR.

Earlier this month, British supercars marque McLaren released yet another special edition model based on its current 750S signature supercar model. Called the McLaren 750S JC96, just 61 units will be offered exclusively to buyers in Japan.

The market-specific exclusivity and limited quantity were both intentional – they’re meant to celebrate a unique milestone set by the legendary McLaren F1 GTR racecar in the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) – now known as Super GT – back in 1996.

This special pays homage to the 1996 JGTC title-winning #61 Team Lark (Team Goh Motorsports) McLaren F1 GTR - the only time a non Japanese machine won a GT500 title in said series.

In fact, the JC96 special pays homage to the #61 McLaren F1 GTR ran by Team Lark (Team Goh Motorsports) that won the premier GT500 class driver’s title in the 1996 JGTC season. To date, this remains the only time a non-Japanese machine won said title in JGTC.

Prior to that, the McLaren F1 GTR had already solidified its status as racing legend by winning both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and  BPR Global GT Endurance Series in 1995. The 1996 JGTC title mentioned followed up from which.

Said history explains why just 61 units of the JC96 special will be built, and all offered exclusively in Japan only.

Back to the new limited-run special and firstly, McLaren will offer it in both Coupe and Spider forms. Each will feature a special MSO (McLaren Special Operations) High Downforce Kit (HDK), new forged wheels, as well as gold brake calipers and cabin trims.

Notably, this marks the first time the HDK option is primed in the open-top 750S Spider. It brings a more aggressive front splitter, larger rear wing with integrated endplates plus louvers below which, all bringing a 10% increase in downforce.

Notably, this special is available in both Coupe and Spider (pictured) forms.

The JC96 treatment also marks the first time that the 750S Spider gets treated with the MSO HDK option.

However, what will allow this special to stand out visually is the unique livery each unit will wear. This is inspired by the striking ‘tiger stripe’ design worn by the 1996 JGTC title-winning car. For said original, it merged Rocket Pink and Tarmac Grey hues.

The new rendition for the 750S JC96 special features similar graphics available in four specially curated shades – Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Ice White and Graphite Grey. These were curated to be compatible with the wide colour palette of the 750S.

Additionally, just 4 units will come with an extensive hand-painted JC96 tribute livery mirroring the 1996 original worn by the title-winning McLaren F1 GTR mentioned.

Of course, that’s not all. MSO adds that just 4 of the 61 units will get with an extensive hand-painted JC96 tribute livery too.

Mechanically, the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo remains unchanged to deliver 740 hp and 800 Nm. It does come with a stainless-steel sports exhaust that’s treated with a Natural Titanium finish.

On board, the JC96 special see its cabin decked out with gold trims, Carbon Black inserts, Brushed Dark Titanium trims, as well as a special MSO Interior Livery Theme Pack option.

On board, buyers can choose between three variations of the Full Alcantara upholstery with contrast stitching and JC96 lettering stitched into the headrests and armrests. Present here too are Carbon Black inserts plus Brushed Dark Titanium trims.

Other optional features present here include the MSO Interior Livery Theme Pack with the JC96 Tiger Stripe pattern added to the steering marker and paddle-shifters. There’s even the choice of a bespoke key, McLaren Track Record Plaque, and more.

McLaren didn't reveal any pricing details for the 750S JC96 special edition, but it is expected to command a premium over the base 750S.

McLaren did not reveal any pricing figures for the new 750S JC96 edition detailed. Naturally, expect each unit from this special series to command a significant premium.

For reference, the McLaren 750S sees local pricing start from RM1,388,000 (Coupe) and from RM1,508,000 (Spider) before options, taxes, duties and insurance.
