Porsche Shows Off New Wireless EV Charging Tech
Porsche is showcasing its new wireless EV charging tech at the upcoming IAA Mobility 2025 show set for next week in Munich, Germany.

The upcoming IAA Mobility 2025 show set for next week in Munich, Germany, isn’t just a stage to debut new metal. In fact, such shows also stand as prime avenues for automakers to show off new tech.
Porsche elected to cast a spotlight on a novel new feature for said show that’s set to be offered as an option in its forthcoming new all-electric Cayenne – wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging.
Porsche is showing off said new tech in a prototype of the upcoming Cayenne EV wearing a striking camouflage that uses interactive fluorescent paint.

Notably, the marque will showcase this tech using a prototype of said upcoming flagship EV SUV that dons a striking fluorescent paint camouflage. Featuring five tones, these glow with bright shades of light when exposed to alternating voltage.
The concept of wirelessly charging EV batteries isn’t new, though Porsche’s tech does hold strong promise. For one, it uses an inductive floor plate supported by a receiver unit that, secondly, boasts a charging speed of up to 11 kW.
The tech uses both an inductive floor plate and receiver unit, the latter primed aboard the Cayenne EV in between the front wheels.

The floor plate contains all the necessary components to initiate over the air charging, though it must be plugged in with a cable. Charging will be as easy as driving the Cayenne EV above this plate and aligning both components mentioned.
Once it’s in position, the air suspension will automatically lower, thus reducing the distance between the two charging units to between 4 and 6 inches. Helping to guide drivers into the correct position will be the Cayenne’s Surround View parking function.

Charging could see be as easy as driving up and positioning your EV to trigger over the air charging.

Additionally, charging can be monitored via the My Porsche app, giving owners an easy way to keep track of charging sessions.
Apart from the 11 kW speed mentioned – the norm for standard household wallbox chargers – Porsche didn’t disclose how quickly electric Cayenne fully recharge via this method. Nevertheless, this should suffice for overnight charges.
Users can monitor and track their charging via the my Porsche app too.
As mentioned, Porsche will offer this wireless charging tech as an option for the Cayenne EV model noted, though the exact cost of which remains undisclosed too. Typical of the brand though, expect this to typically command quite a premium.
As to when the Cayenne EV itself will debut, a European launch is slated to start first sometime next year before entry into other markets globally.
