Proton e.MAS 5 Bookings Open Oct 4 Onwards
The Proton e.MAS 5 appears to be a step closer to its official launch. Over the weekend, Proton and Pro-Net confirmed bookings for it opens Oct 4 onwards.

Having seen it in ourselves in both left-hand-drive (LGD) Geely Xingyuan form recently and in early prototype right-hand-drive (RHD) stage prior, we’re certain the Proton e.MAS 5 is set for launch very soon.
In fact, Proton’s EV arm PRO-NET took to social media last weekend to announce a special online livestream event for the e.Mas 5, adding in the same post that bookings will open officially after which on Oct 4 too.
Said livestream event takes place this weekend on Saturday, Oct 4 at 8PM via Facebook and TikTok. Despite confirming when the order books open, neither Proton or PRO-NET have indicated any tentative price figure for the e.MAS 5 yet.
Nevertheless, given the promise by Proton of the e.MAS 5 being “Malaysia’s first affordable EV,” coupled by the recent opening of a dedicated new EV production line at its Tanjong Malim plant, all signs point towards a starting price well below RM100,000.

Previewed last month, the Proton e.MAS 5 will see two variants on offer – ‘Prime’ packing a 30.12 kWh battery pack with 250 KM WLTP range and an up-specced ‘Premium’ with a larger 40.16 kWh battery plus longer 325 KM WLTP range.
Said batteries are LFP-type packs supplied by CATL, and should accommodate both 6.6 kW AC and up to 71 kW DC charging inputs, the later promising 30-80% re-charges in just 21 mins too. You can get to know more via our in-depth preview report by clicking here.
A starting price well below RM100,000 is expected, and we reckon a launch will take place circa mid- or late-Oct.

Besides price, Proton and PRO-NET also skirted away from revealing an actual launch date. Nevertheless, given that bookings officially opens on Oct 4 as noted, we may not have long to wait – our best guess is sometime in mid- or late-Oct.
In the meantime, are any of you folks keen to adopt this small EV from P1? Or would you rather wait a little to see what Rawang-based rivals Perodua will counter it with? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
