Suzuki just updated its Jimny 3-Door in Japan.

Hamamatsu-based automaker Suzuki just released an updated version of its iconic fourth-generation Jimny 3-Door mini 4x4. And in case you weren’t aware, the Japanese S-marque offers this signature nameplate in Japan in both regular and Kei Car-class variants.

That last fact ought to explain the weird-looking proportions of the Jimny in selected images featured here – we’ve featured both. The easiest way to set both apart is the absent black-clad wheel arches in the Kei Car-class variant (chassis code: JB64).

For Japan, the Jimny 3-Door is marketed in both Kei Car-class (left) and regular (right) forms.

Notably, much of the changes and tweaks are mostly focused on safety and connectivity. Take note also that much of these changes are limited to both 3-Door variants only as the India-made 5-Door guisemarketed in japan as the Nomade – remains unchanged still.

Specific to the Japanese market, the Kei Car-class variant uses a 658cc 3-cyl turbo petrol mill rated at just 63 hp. Similarly, the regular Jimny 3-Door (chassis code: JB74) retains the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cyl mill we’re all familiar with, which offers 103 hp and 138 Nm.

A minor but significant addition is the revised side-mirrors, which now feature smaller blind-spot mirrors tacked-on below.

Straight into the changes, not much can be seen with the exterior except for new side-mirrors updated with smaller new blind-spot mirrors mounted below. Otherwise, all else appears unchanged on the outside.

Moving into the cabin and the updated Jimny 3-Door variants for Japan firstly gains a new instrument panel boasting an updated 4.2-inch digital display sitting in between the model’s signature large analogue rev-counter and speedometer gauges.

On board, Suzuki have brimmed the cabin with a new optional 9-inch infotainment screen plus an updated centre console.

Next, buyers can also now opt for a sharper new 9-inch infotainment screen lifted from the Swift hatch. Costing an additional ¥128,700 (RM3,612), it boasts both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. New too is an updated centre console with a smartphone slot.

Take note that in Japan, aa base-spec trimline is offered that is NOT equipped with an automatic climate control. Instead, this guise gets a more traditional analogue interface versus the automatic semi-digital unit primed in higher-end guises.

New here too is the updated 4.2-inch digital display in the instrument panel. Suzuki also added basic ADAS features like LDP, TSR, AHB, as well as ACC and Rear Falst Start Prevention for automatic variants.

Next comes arguably the most critical update whereby the Jimny 3-Door gains a “Dual Sensor Brake Support II” system, followed by lane-departure prevention (LDP), automatic high-beam (AHB), traffic-sign recognition (TSR) plus tighter new cybersecurity measures.

Moreover, variants brimmed with the 4-speed automatic transmission option gains further with both Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and something called Rear False Start Prevention function.

In short, the basic ADAS features brimmed now puts the Japan market Jimny 3-Door model on par with the aforementioned 5-door ‘Nomade’ variant in terms of basic safety.

Both manual and automatic transmission option are still offered too.

As for price, the revised Suzuki Jimny 3-Door range detailed commands between ¥1,918,400 (RM53,833) and ¥2,160,400 (RM60,624) for the Kei Car-class Jimny.

As for the regular Jimny 3-Door variant, which is marketed in Japan as the Jimny Sierra, it is tagged between  ¥2,271,500 (RM63,741) and ¥2,385,900 (RM66,951).
