JMS 2025: Fourth-Gen Nissan Elgrand MPV Bows In

The fourth-gen Nissan Elgrand bows in as the brand’s flagship MPV with a new e-Power hybrid powertrain system.
Centrestage to Nissan’s showcase at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2025 (JMS 2025) is the all-new, fourth-gen Nissan Elgrand MPV. For its fourth-gen iteration, this premium minivan comes with Nissan’s new e-Power hybrid (HEV) powertrain system while featuring a pretty stylish design inspired by the futuristic Nissan Hyper Tourer concept.

Upon first glance, you can immediately see the similarities between the new Elgrand and the Hyper Tourer concept in what Nissan described as its new ‘Timeless Japanese Futurism’ design language.

For starters, the MPV’s front fascia is dominated by several small LEDs that are incorporated into the pixelated front grille that combines black and body-coloured elements. The actual headlights of the car are quite simple and are matched with a full-width light bar with Elgrand lettering and an illuminated Nissan badge.

The same LED-studded design can be seen at the rear, this time around they are incorporated within the car’s full-width LED taillight unit to give it an expansive and futuristic look. Its overall side profile largely follows the same wedge-shape design seen on the Hyper Tourer concept, albeit slightly toned down.

The pixelated design element can also be seen on the new Elgrand’s 18-inch alloy wheels, which feature a more enclosed design and are finished in gloss black to match the exterior trims and accents.

On-board, the new Elgrand looks more luxurious and futuristic than the outgoing model, featuring tons of modern and premium amenities all wrapped in a unique two-tone colourway with woodgrain accents.

Some key highlights include a pair of 14.3-inch screens on the dashboard, a new two-spoke steering wheel, a floating central console with two wireless chargers and a built-in storage compartment, two-tone leather-wrapped front seats with a built-in ottoman support for the passenger side, a 22-speaker Bose audio system with built-in headrest speakers, and multi-colour ambient lights.

Life in the second row of the new Elgrand is arguably the most lavish, as it rocks a two-seater Captain's seat layout with tilting functions and power-operated footrests. To keep passengers entertained, each of the two captain seats comes with its own dedicated infotainment display, as well as a separate climate control panel and a split panoramic sunroof.

As mentioned earlier, the new Elgrand is exclusively powered by Nissan’s new e-Power hybrid (HEV) powertrain system, featuring a 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbocharged petrol engine as its core. Said engine is then mated to two electric motors that make up its proprietary e-4orce all-wheel drive (AWD) system, while juice is provided by a small 1.8-kWh battery pack.
While Nissan has yet to reveal the juicy figures, the new Elgrand is said to boast a dedicated EV driving mode, as well as the e-Pedal one-pedal driving mode. As for the driver’s assistance, this new MPV will also come with Nissan’s latest ProPILOT system, which supports hands-off operation at speeds below 50 km/h, as well as ProPILOT 2.0 for hands-free highway driving and lane change assistance.

The fourth-gen Nissan Elgrand is slated to make its Japanese market debut later in summer 2026, but there’s no mention of specific dates or timelines for the overseas markets. That said, the Elgrand is quite popular in grey import markets around the world, although it is often overshadowed by the more popular Toyota Alphard in several markets, including Malaysia.
