Porsche Cayenne EV 800V Platform Detailed – 113 kWh Battery, 400 kW DCFC, Over 600 KM Range

More details about the upcoming new Porsche Cayenne Electric (Cayenne EV) have been released. Set to debut sometime in the coming weeks, Porsche elected to shed light on the platform that the Cayenne EV underpins.
Firstly, the Stuttgart-rooted brand confirmed that the platform base itself in an updated version of its Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture used in the Macan Electric (Macan EV) boasting an 800-volt (800V) electrical architecture.
Present here too is a 113 kWh lithium-ion battery that’s integrated into the vehicle structure in the floor. Notably, Porsche also revealed said battery pack consists of six interchangeable modules and 192 large-format pouch cells.

Versus the second-gen Taycan battery, there’s a 12% improvement between the cells and battery housing, bringing with it weight and packaging perks. Brimmed here too is a specially developed aluminium structure that protects the cells via targeted energy absorption manner in the event of an impact.
The cells themselves also feature a graphite-silicon anode and nickel-manganese cobalt-aluminium (NMCA) cathode. With nickel content as high as 86%, Porsche touts this ensures maximum energy density, whereas silicon in the anode enhances fast-charging, not forgetting increased cell structure rigidity using aluminium too.
Altogether, Porsche says the Cayenne EV’s battery pack boasts a gross capacity of 113 kWh, and should yield combined WLTP range “well over 600 KM.” Fuelling this further are reports of American journalists piloting early prototypes to chart a journey of over 563 KM on a single charge, though speeds were limited at just 113 km/h for which.

Moving to the 800V system itself, the Cayenne EV will be able to draw in DC fast-charging speeds as high as 400 kW. In turn, this should enable 10-80% re-charges in just 16 minutes, which equates to gaining up to 300 KM of range through just 10 minutes of being plugged in at said speed.
Porsche further notes that the charging rate remains consistent between 350 and 400 kW at up to about 50% state-of-charge (SoC). In other words, the Cayenne EV is capable of sustaining high levels of charging power for a considerable time – untypical with electric vehicles (EVs).
Porsche also notes this optimal fast-charging curve is attained from battery temperatures as low as 15-degrees celsius. This is apparently lower than before, and more robust under real world conditions with changing climates. Additionally, in markets where only 400-volt charging stations are present, the Cayenne EV will draw up to 200 kW of DCFC speeds sans additional booster.

In terms of managing the battery’s thermals and ensuring it operates within an optimal range, Porsche employs a cooling system that regulates battery temperature from both above and below. The firm adds that the cooling capacity corresponds to about 100 large household refrigerators, and it uses energy-efficient pressure fans for the first time that use 15% less energy versus conventional suction fans.
Whilst on thermal-related system still, another notable tech here is the new Predictive Thermal Management. This links the vehicle’s cooling and heating circuits, continuously managing both in correlation to the environment and driving profile or demands. This tech aims is to constantly keep the battery at an optimum temperature, and it works closely with the enhanced Charging Planner feature brimmed aboard.
Lastly, Porsche once again shined the spotlight on the Cayenne EV’s trick wireless charging system. You can get up to speed on this specific tech feature from our previous report by clicking here.
