The all-new 2025 Proton Saga made its debut today with a notable safety milestone, securing a 4-star rating in its latest ASEAN NCAP assessment

Conducted under the 2021–2025 protocol, the sedan achieved an overall score of 66.70 points, reflecting Proton’s effort to enhance occupant protection and introduce more advanced assistance features into its most affordable model.

At launch, the Saga is offered in three variants: the 1.5 Standard at RM38,990, the 1.5 Executive at RM44,990 and the 1.5 Premium at RM49,990. For early customers, Proton is however offering a RM1,000 booking rebate until 31 Dec, bringing prices down to RM37,990, RM43,990 and RM48,990 respectively.

In its Adult Occupant Protection evaluation, the Saga recorded 23.72 points out of 32.00, with 12.98 points from the frontal offset test, 6.74 points for side impact and 4.00 points for head protection technology.

ASEAN NCAP reported a stable occupant cell during the frontal crash, with marginal chest protection for the driver and adequate protection for the feet and ankles. The side-impact results returned similar marginal chest protection but maintained structural stability throughout the test.

ISOFIX and top-tether anchorages are fitted as standard, and the Saga passed installation compatibility with seats from Peg-Perego, Joie, Britax, Maxi-Cosi and Combi used in the evaluation.

Safety Assist technologies added 14.00 points to the tally. ASEAN NCAP verified the functionality of AEB City, which scored 1.25 points, and AEB Inter-Urban, which contributed 1.75 points.

Effective Braking and Avoidance delivered 6.00 points, while seatbelt reminders for the front occupants accounted for 3.00 points. Higher-spec variants also offer Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning and Auto High Beam.

In the Motorcyclist Safety domain, the Saga collected 7.00 points, driven by its Blind Spot Detection system that performed effectively on both sides of the vehicle. A bonus point was also awarded for offering AEB for Motorcycle, an advanced rider-focused system that remains rare at this price point.

ASEAN NCAP noted that the new Saga demonstrates clear progress compared to the model’s previous 2016 assessment, with improvements in structural behaviour, child protection consistency and the availability of modern safety technologies.

With its updated safety credentials and the strong value proposition introduced at launch, the 2025 Proton Saga strengthens its position as one of Malaysia’s most popular A-Segment nameplates

The improved ASEAN NCAP rating also places it as a potentially viable export candidate within the wider ASEAN market, supporting Proton’s ongoing regional expansion ambitions.
