Jaecoo J5 Online ROI Now Opened – Jan 2026 Launch?
Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia have opened up online ROI for the upcoming new Jaecoo J5 B-SUV.

With just days left in the year that is 2025, it seems we now have our first indication of what’s set to launch first come the new year.
Earlier today, we chanced upon sighting a newly established Registration of Interest (ROI) page on the Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia webpage for the upcoming new Jaecoo J5 – the Chery-owned premium sub-brand’s B-segment SUV fighter.
The Jaecoo J5 was previewed locally back in Aug by Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia, and again in special wrap last month during LahLahland 2025.

Set to take on the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, as well as its ‘cousin’ the Chery Tiggo Cross, the Jaecoo J5 was previewed locally back in Aug this year before it was shown again wearing a special wrap at the LahLahLand 2025 lifestyle expo in Nov 2025.
From what we can garner, the Jaecoo J5 will arrive as a combustion (ICE)-powered offering first. For now, neighbouring Indonesia enjoy the model in battery electric (BEV) form launched last month promising up to 461 KM of NEDC-rated range.
It’s unclear if the Jaecoo J5 EV noted is planned for Malaysia, but we’re willing to bet this ICE-powered version will be locally built (CKD) by the firm at its plant in Shah Alam.
No sign of the BEV version yet, but we're willing to bet the Jaecoo J5 will be locally built (CKD) in Shah Alam.

As previewed, the Malaysia-spec Jaecoo J5 is set to harness a familiar 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbo petrol heart mated with a CVT automatic box. The former outputs 147 PS and 210 Nm to drive the front wheels (FWD) via the latter.
The Jaecoo J5 conforms to typical B-SUV footprints at 4,380 mm long with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall. For reference, the Jaecoo J5 has a 10 mm and 20 mm longer wheelbase versus its Honda and Proton rivals mentioned respectively.
In terms of size, the Jaecoo J5 is comparable to the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V, though it does benefit with a longer wheelbase over said two rivals.

As for styling, you could call the Jaecoo J5 a ‘baby’ version of its bigger sibling the J7. The only difference is of course this more ‘attainable’ model’s choice of traditional door handles in stead of flushed, pop-out units brimmed in the larger J7 noted.
Moreover, during its initial preview, Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia were also keen to highlight this B-SUV fighter’s adoption of a front MacPherson struts plus multi-link rear suspension setup combination – a rather uncommon feat in this space of cars.

On board, the Jaecoo J5 brings dual digital displays, a plush faux-leather upholstery, and a full-suite of ADAS features enabling Level 2.5 semi-autonomy.

On board, the Jaecoo J5 sees its dash brimmed with both an 8-inch digital instrument panel and a massive 13.2-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen infotainment. Notably, the latter brings both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity to boot.
Another key highlight on board is the anti-bacterial and scratch-resistant faux leather upholstery wrapping the seats, dash and door trims. As for safety, the Jaecoo J5 is laden with a myriad of ADAS features that enables ‘Level 2.5’ semi-autonomy.
As standard, there's a 480-litre boot, but this is expandable up to 1,180 litres thanks to 60:40 split-folding rear seats.

Despite its posh looks and upmarket aspirations, the Jaecoo J5 hasn’t compromised on practicality too. This is evident through its massive standard boot space of 480 litres, which is also expandable to 1,180 litres thanks to 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
As for price, your guess is as good as ours for now. However, given how the firm priced its larger offerings – i.e. Jaecoo J7, Jaecoo J7 PHEV, and Jaecoo J8 – versus its peers, we can perhaps expect similarly tempting figures touted come launch day.
As for price, your guess is as good as ours...

For reference, the Proton X50 in base Executive guise starts from RM85,800 (with rebate), whilst the Honda HR-V in base S-grade starts at RM115,900. Similarly, the Chery Tiggo Cross in 1.5 Turbo form is tagged at RM88,800.
Given the last set of facts, we’ll leave it to you to speculate how much this posh Chinese left-field fighter will be priced at. Give your best guesses in the comments below and on our social media pages…
