Malaysia-Bound Forthing Friday BEV & REEV Earns 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating

Fresh from its regional safety assessment, the Malaysia-bound Forthing Friday C-SUV has secured a five-star rating under the latest ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 crash test protocol, strengthening its credentials ahead of its planned local debut.
The model from the Dongfeng-owned sub-brand achieved an overall score of 87.18 points, with the assessment covering both the fully electric (BEV) and range-extended electric (REEV) variants destined for ASEAN markets including Malaysia. The result comes shortly after the Friday was previewed locally at GATE 2025 in Nov.

In the Adult Occupant Protection category, the Friday scored 31.82 out of 32 points, or 39.78 in weighted score, with ASEAN NCAP noting that the frontal occupant compartment remained stable during the frontal offset crash test, while adequate protection was provided to the driver’s lower extremities.
Full points were also awarded for side impact and head protection performance.

The SUV recorded 38.91 points out of 51 in Child Occupant Protection, translating to a weighted score of 15.26, with points awarded across frontal and side impact protection as well as child restraint installation performance.

No points were given for Child Presence Detection, as the system is not available on the model.
In Safety Assist, the Forthing Friday scored 18.00 out of 21 points, or 17.14 in weighted score, driven by standard-fit technologies such as Autonomous Emergency Braking covering City, Inter-Urban, Pedestrian and Motorcycle scenarios, alongside Electronic Stability Control, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

Meanwhile, the Friday scored 12.00 out of 16 points in the Motorcyclist Safety category, aided by Blind Spot Detection on both sides of the vehicle, and earned a bonus point for Advanced Motorcyclist Safety Technology thanks to its AEB for motorcycles.
The assessment marks the first ASEAN NCAP evaluation for a model from Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor, with the Friday offering a comprehensive safety package as standard, including six airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

As previously reported, the Forthing Friday is set to enter Malaysia via Wide Premium Sdn Bhd, with both BEV and REEV variants planned, alongside semi-knocked-down (SKD) local assembly, as it enters an increasingly competitive electrified C-SUV segment.
