Trans Borneo Highway’s Miri Stretch Set To Begin Construction Next Year
Construction on the Miri stretch of the Trans Borneo Highway is finally moving forward, with the Works Ministry confirming that physical work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi told the Dewan Negara that the 4.951-kilometre section, formerly known as Miri Work Package 12 under Phase 2 of the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB2), is still in its pre-construction stage while the federal government completes the procurement and tender process.
"LPB2 has now been rebranded as two separate projects which are the Trans Borneo Highway (LTB) and the Northern Coastal Highway (NCH)," he explained.
This came in response to Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, who asked for updates on Sarawak’s LPB2 progress and how the ministry plans to avoid delays caused by contractor issues or the need for extra funding.

According to Nanta, Work Package 13 (Limbang) and Work Package 14 (Lawas) now fall under the NCH project and are being implemented by RECODA under the supervision of the Sarawak government.
As for the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak, Nanta reported that the 786-kilometre route has reached 99.98% progress as of Oct.
"Ten out of eleven work packages are already completed and opened in stages to the public. The last remaining package, WPC 11, however, cannot meet its original 2025 completion timeline," Nanta added.
He said the delay stems from the urgent need to replace old water pipes belonging to Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd along the affected 4.2-kilometre stretch. The pipe replacement must be done first to prevent supply disruptions in Miri and avoid future road damage.

The Works Ministry, along with Sarawak JKR, contractors and relevant agencies, is currently renegotiating costs and scope. Pipe diversion and road upgrades are expected to roll out in phases from early 2026, with full completion targeted for the first quarter of 2029.
"Finishing WPC 11 will mark the full completion of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak
"Continuous monitoring is in place to keep the projects on track and prevent delays due to contractor or funding issues," the minister assured.
