BYD Han L & Tang L: 1,000 HP With 1,000 kW Charging Speeds
Chinese NEV_making giants BYD officially opened pre-sales for its latest Han L flagship EV sedan and Tang L flagship EV SUV duo in China earlier today. Notably, both underpin the firm’s cutting-edge Super e-Platform base boasting a 1,000-volt architecture capable of 10C ultra-fast charging and over 1,000 HP outputs.
One of the most groundbreaking features of the Han L and Tang L EVs is their ability to leverage BYD’s new 1,000 kW (or 1 MW) ultra-fast charging technology. Using BYD’s megawatt charging pile, these EVs can gain 400 KM of range with just 5 minutes of charging, thus making charging as quick and as convenient as traditional refueling.
This marks a major leap forward in EV charging, surpassing mainstream fast chargers. For reference, the quickest EV charger present in Malaysia for example established by DC Handal is rated at just 400 kW.
The Han L EV combines sleek styling with powerful performance. It sits 5,050 MM long with a 2,970 MM wheelbase, 1,960 MM wide, and 1,505 MM tall. Key exterior design features and touches include sharp headlights, flush door handles, slanted roofline, and a distinctive chrome-plated Han emblem on the grille.
Inside, the Han L sports a dual-tone interior, D-shaped steering wheel with the Han character, and a large 15.6-inch floating touchscreen in its center console.
Equipped with an 83.2 kWh LFP battery pack, the Han L EV has a CLTC-rated range of between 601 KM to 701 KM. As mentioned, it supports ultra-fast 10C charging, allowing for rapid energy transfer to its high-powered electric motors as well.
A single-motor variant is also available and delivers 500 kW (670 HP), whereas a dual-motor AWD guise slotted above which boasts a combined output of 810 kW (1,086 HP) instead. In turn, 0-100 KM/H sprints can be done as quickly as 2.7 secs, and 100-200 KM/H in 4.74 secs before hitting a claimed V-max of 305 KM/H.
Presales prices for the Han L EV range from RMB270,000 (RM166,000) to RMB350,000 (RM215,000).
As for the Tang L EV, this larger seven-seat SUV offers similar high-performance capabilities as its Han L EV sedan twin, albeit with more space. As for its footprint, it sits 5,040 MM long with a 2,950 MM wheelbase, 1,996 MM wide, and 1,760 MM tall.
The exterior design touches also include notable features like distinct thin running lights, headlights integrated into the front bumper, and a single taillight strip. Inside, the dual-tone interior incorporates orange accents, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, and an AR-HUD display.
Despite offering similar power specification as the Han L, the Tang L is offered with a larger 100.5 kWh LFP battery pack that promises three CLTC-rated range options - 560 KM, 600 KM, and 670 KM.
In terms of performance though, the larger Tang L clocks slightly slower sprint times as it accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 3.6 secs, 100-200 KM/H in 6.19 secs, and a claimed 287.4 KM/H V-max.
Lastly, presales prices for the Tang L EV range between RMB280,000 (RM172,000) and RMB360,000 (RM220,000).
According to BYD, both the Han L and Tang L is just not about pushing the boundaries of performance BYD is well known for but more towards proving BYS’s charging speeds that are now able to rival traditional refueling times.
The 1,000 kW charging technology is now able to eliminate range anxiety and set a new benchmark for the EV industry - marking a turning point for electric vehicles on a global scale.
