Xpeng officially launched the extended-range version of its X9 MPV at Auto Guangzhou 2025. The X9 EREV comes in two variants: Max priced at RMB309,800 (RM180,000) and Ultra at RMB329,800 (RM190,000). This makes the EREV cheaper than the BEV, which is priced at RMB359,800 (RM210,000) in China.

The X9 EREV is Xpeng’s first model equipped with the Kunpeng Super Electric System, marking the start of the company’s push into the extended-range EV segment. EREV variants for the G7 SUV, G6 SUV, and P7+ sedan are planned, and by 2027, Xpeng expects to have seven models with dual powertrain options, expanding its market coverage.

The X9 EREV measures 5,316 mm long, 1,988 mm wide, and 1,785 mm tall, with a 3,160 mm wheelbase. It is slightly longer than the X9 BEV, while other dimensions remain the same.

Powered by a 63.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CALB, the X9 EREV delivers an all-electric range of 452 km. Combined with its 60-liter fuel tank, the MPV achieves a total range of 1,602 km (CLTC). Xpeng claims the vehicle can operate solely on EV mode in 90% of daily driving scenarios.

The EREV is built on an 800V high-voltage architecture and supports 5C fast charging, adding 313 km of range in just 10 minutes. Its 1.5T range-extending engine produces 110 kW (148 HP) with a thermal efficiency of 43.06% and a maximum power generation efficiency of 3.6 Wh/L. The rear-wheel-drive motor delivers 210 kW (281 HP) and 465 Nm, and together the system can accelerate from 0‑100 km/h in 8 seconds.

The X9 EREV features a redesigned front fascia with a larger air intake and dual-segment cooling ducts. Through-type LED daytime running lights and a new Aurora Green color enhance its presence. The floating roof design is achieved using hidden A, B, C, and D pillars.

Inside, the MPV houses a 17.3-inch central infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster. A 21-inch panoramic HUD supports lane-level navigation with spatial recognition. The second row features dual zero-gravity seats with integrated controls and a 21.4-inch roof-mounted screen, while the third row supports adjustable backrests, fold-flat, and flip-and-stow with 4/6 split folding.

The X9 EREV’s intelligent cockpit uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip. The Max variant has a single in-house Turing AI chip (750 TOPS), while the Ultra variant includes three chips (2,250 TOPS) powering advanced driver assistance, infotainment, and the “Starship Universe” smart cockpit.

Safety and structure are reinforced with integrated front and rear die-cast technology, high-strength steel rated at 2,000 MPa, and torsional rigidity of 46,000 N·m/deg, complemented by nine airbags.

With competitive pricing, long range, fast charging, and advanced driver assistance, the X9 EREV is a capable MPV - but the million-dollar question is when it will arrive in RHD form. For Malaysia, this is particularly relevant as BEV tax holidays end, and Xpeng has historically moved quickly to roll out RHD variants for global markets.
