The Honda Prelude premium hybrid sports coupe has officially launched in neighbouring Indonesia recently, making the republic the first in ASEAN to see it go on sale.

It seems the Republic just across the Malacca Strait is having quite an active first quarter too with several interesting new model launches. The latest of which stems in the form of the Honda Prelude premium hybrid sports coupe, making it the first in ASEAN to have it.

Launched by brand custodians PT Honda Prospect Motor, the firm is offering just one fully imported (CBU) Japan-made variant of the Prelude for the Indonesian market. Indonesian sources online also indicate the model will see ‘limited’ quantities available.

Pre-bookings for the Prelude were opened in Indonesia late last week and deliveries are set to commence there starting May this year. As for price, the Prelude remains a premium in this market too where it’s tagged at a princely IDR 1 billion figure – roughly RM234,435.

The sixth-gen iteration of the Prelude nameplate shares the same bones as the current 11th-gen Civic, even 'borrowing' key chassis hardware from the latest and hotter Type R variant too.

As a refresher, the sixth-gen Prelude first debuted in fully-electric (EV) concept form back in 2023 before entering production as a petrol-electric hybrid in 2025. It shares the same bones as the current 11th-gen Civic, even borrowing bits from the hotter Type R version.

Under the hood, the sixth-gen Prelude adopts an identical power-split petrol-electric hybrid powertrain setup as the Civic e:HEV variant. It pairs a 2.0-litre nat-asp 4-cyl petrol mill with a hybrid e-motor, compact battery and dedicated eCVT hybrid transmission.

Whilst the combustion (ICE) side has a rated output of 141 PS and 182 Nm, the electrified half brings 184 PS and 315 Nm into the mix. Altogether, Honda touts a peak combined output of up to 204 PS. You can get up to speed with the Prelude by clicking here.

The Prelude looks set to enter Malaysia soon enough, though we're not certain as to when exactly, and just how much it will cost when launched here.

Now officially launched in neighbouring Indonesia, all signs likely point towards the Prelude perhaps making its way to other neighbouring ASEAN markets like ours soon. We’ll remind you that Honda Malaysia had teased the Prelude locally not too long ago.

Said teaser follows up from the firm showcasing the nameplate’s concept during KLIMS 2024 prior too. Certainly, all this effort strongly indicates that the premium hybrid-powered sports coupe has been earmarked for entry into Malaysia indeed.

What remains unclear still is when exactly will it launch here, and how much it will cost. Care to stake your bets on either in the comments below?
