Use The Kelana Jaya LRT? Here's Why Some Stations Won't Open Until 9.30AM

TL;DR
  • Rapid KL is replacing tracks along the Kelana Jaya LRT Line in seven phases.
  • The works begin on Sept 13, 2026 and are scheduled to continue until Sept 2027.
  • On selected Sundays, affected stations will only begin operating at 9.30 AM instead of the usual 6 AM.
  • Stations not involved in the works will operate as usual.
  • Free shuttle buses will be provided to help passengers around the affected sections.

If you regularly take the Kelana Jaya LRT Line, especially on Sunday mornings, you might want to save these dates.

Rapid KL is starting a major track replacement programme along the line from Sept 13, 2026, with works being carried out in seven phases until September 2027.

And on certain Sundays, the stations involved won't begin operating until 9.30 AM, instead of the usual 6 AM.

Don't panic, though. This does not mean the entire Kelana Jaya Line will start late every Sunday for the next year.

Why Are Some Stations Opening Late?

Rapid KL says it is replacing existing tracks with new ones, together with related maintenance works, to maintain the safety and reliability of the Kelana Jaya Line.

Some sections have long curved stretches of track that require more time to replace. This means work on certain scheduled dates will continue into the morning, pushing the opening time of the affected stations to 9.30 AM.

Important: Not Every Station Is Affected
Only the stations and Sundays listed below will have the later 9.30 AM start. Stations not involved in the track works will continue operating according to their normal schedules.

Here's The Full Schedule

The replacement programme is split into seven phases, so check whether your usual station appears below.

Phase Dates Affected Stations
1 Sept 13, 20 & 27, 2026 Taman Melati, Gombak
2 Nov 15, 22 & 29, 2026 Universiti, Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum
3 Jan 10, 17 & 24, 2027 Dato' Keramat, Jelatek, Setiawangsa
4 March 14, 21 & 28, 2027 Universiti, Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum
5 May 9, 16 & 23, 2027 Masjid Jamek, Dang Wangi, Kampung Baru, KLCC, Ampang Park
6 July 11, 18 & 25, 2027 Taman Jaya, Universiti, Kerinchi, Abdullah Hukum
7 Sept 12, 19 & 26, 2027 Taman Melati, Gombak

What If You Need The LRT Before 9.30 AM?

Rapid KL says free shuttle buses will connect the affected stations during the track replacement works, allowing passengers to continue their journeys while waiting for normal train operations to resume.

Staff, auxiliary police and Prasarana Troopers will also be stationed at affected locations to help passengers get around.

So if your station appears on the schedule above, it would be wise to give yourself extra travelling time, especially if you have somewhere important to be early on a Sunday morning.

What About Tickets?

Ticket machines at the affected stations will be temporarily unavailable until 9.30 AM on the scheduled work days.

Passengers who need a ticket can still obtain one at the station counter, while users of Rapid KL products and Touch 'n Go can continue their journeys as usual.

First Up: Gombak And Taman Melati

The first phase begins this Sunday, Sept 13, affecting Gombak and Taman Melati.

The same two stations will also be affected on Sept 20 and Sept 27, before the programme moves to Universiti, Kerinchi and Abdullah Hukum in November.

With the entire track replacement programme stretching until September 2027, Kelana Jaya Line commuters should keep an eye on the schedule whenever one of these Sunday work periods approaches.
