Perodua Traz

Highly anticipated, Perodua’s latest offering (2025), the all-new Perodua Traz (D66B – first-generation), officially launched in Malaysia.

The B-segment (subcompact crossover SUV) runner underpins the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).

Locally assembled (CKD – Selangor), available via Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd are two variants (X – RM76,100, H – RM81,100).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) include vehicle (three years/100,000 km) and engine-transmission (five years/150,000 km) warranties.

Exterior (X, H: single-tone – standard) colours (Cranberry Red, Granite Grey, Glittering Silver, Ivory White).

Exterior (H: dual-tone – RM900) colours (contrast roof: Black – Electric Blue, Glittering Silver).

Interior (X, H: dual-tone) colour (Black-Red).

The all-new Traz gets an angular and tiered dashboard, linked to a low-rising centre console (armrest, storages).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees upholstery (leatherette) and contrast panels (Aluminium, Gloss Red, Gloss Black) in one colour scheme (dual-tone: Black-Red) with contrast stitching (Red).

Equipped are the driver/central displays (dash embedded: instrument cluster – floating: infotainment) and air-conditioning system (vents: angular – control panel: knobs, buttons).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional) with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Installed is a semi-analogue driver display (instrument cluster) with a 4.2-inch colour TFT LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) Multi-Information Display (MID).

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth and voice recognition.

Comfortable, the interior sees fabric (X, H) upholstery in one colour scheme (dual-tone: Black-Grey) with contrast stitching (Red) and graphics (X: semi covered – H: full covered).

The front gets manual-operated (driver/passenger: multi-way-adjust) bolstered seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench (three-seater).

Accessing (H) the boot’s electric-powered (handsfree: remote/key fob, interior button, tailgate button, kick sensor) tailgate, opens to 471 litres (rear seats up) of load capacity.

Weighing in at 1,145 kg (X) and 1,150 kg (X), the all-new Traz stands at 4,310 mm long, 1,170 mm wide, 1,655 mm tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,620 mm.

Sporty and rugged, it exudes a dynamically curvaceous exterior, emphasised by roundly sculpted and angularly cut contours.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (raised sides), angular quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions) and a sculpted bumper (grille: hexagonal surround, L-patterned inserts, Perodua emblem – vents: lower-centre – cutouts: sides – lip kit).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: wheel arch extensions, side sills) and body trims (Black: grille inserts/surround, vents, cutout surrounds, lip kit, B-pillars, side mirrors, window surrounds – body-colour: bumper, fenders, door handles – Chrome: Perodua emblem).

Athletically solid, it continues the dynamically curvaceous profile, emphasised by roundly angular and horizontally symmetrical surfaces.

The rear-end sees a mildly dipped roofline (roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna), angular quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions), a tapered tailgate (middle bar, Perodua/Traz emblems) and a covered bumper (lip kit – diffuser: hidden exhaust).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: diffuser, wheel arch extensions, side sills) and body trims (Black: roof-edge spoiler, tailgate middle bar, lip kit, B/C-pillars, window surrounds – body-colour: bumper, fenders, door handles, roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna – Chrome: Perodua/Traz emblems).

Angularly embedded, the headlamps are housed largely sharp and inward tilted. Installed are full LED (projectors) units.

Features are automatic On/Off/high-/low-beam, Auto High Beam (AHB), Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a set of LED foglamps (H).

Seamless, the tail lamps are framed largely angular with sharp wrapped-around edges. Installed are combination (bulb, LED) units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a high-mounted stop light (LED – spoiler integrated).

The side mirrors (Black) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with turn signals (LED), blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Monitor: BSM) and welcome lamps (H).

Fitted are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes. Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system.

Fitted is a set of 17-inch (multi-spoke – dual-tone: Black-Silver) alloy rims, wrapped in 215/60 R17 (front, rear) Toyo Proxes CR1 tyres.

The all-new Traz is equipped with the Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Pre-Collision Warning (PCW), Pre-Collision Assist Brake with Vehicle- Pedestrian (PCA-VP), Front Departure Alert (FDA), Pedal Misoperation Alert (PMA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Panoramic View Monitor (PVM: 360-degree – H).

Other systems include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Auto High Beam (AHB) and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold.

Passive safety includes six (driver-passenger, front sides, front-rear curtains) airbags, seat belts (reminders, pre-tensioners, anchors), ISOFIX (two: outer-rear seats), parking sensors (two: front, rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), rear-view mirror (exterior: BSM), automatic-door locks (speed-sensing, central-locking), automatic windows (anti-pinch, one-touch up/down), automatic headlamps (On/Off/low-/high-beam), automatic wipers (rain-sensing, intermittent), impact beams, Digital Video Recorder (DVR – H) and anti-theft system (security alarm, immobiliser).

Three drive modes enabled (NORMAL, ECO, SPORT).

Installed is an 9.0-inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment).

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, media, voice recognition and vehicle telematics.

Entertainment is channelled via a standard sound system (X: four speakers – H: six speakers).

The all-new Traz (X, H) underpins an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE – petrol) powertrain.

Nestled is a (2NR-VE) 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder 16-valve, naturally aspirated-electronic fuel injection (NA-EFI) with variable valve timing (VVT) DOHC petrol engine (106 PS/78 kW, 138 NM).

Churning the setup is a single-speed D-CVT (Dual-Mode Continuously Variable Transmission) with a manual mode (seven-virtual-speed).

Power is rooted to the front wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

Fuel tank capacity is at 42 litres. Fuel consumption reads at 4.7 l/100 km (MDC).

A suitable daily driver, the ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time, providing great power with agile handling.

Propping-up the chassis is a suspension setup of MacPherson struts (front) and torsion beam (rear).

Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin can suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, even when cruising through bumpy asphalts or at high speeds.
