The New Porsche 911 Carrera T is 992’s Quirky Middle Child
As technological advancements in automobile progress, cars are getting more and more finicky and complicated. Days of EV cars with computing power of a gaming rig and screens bigger than an iPad have made car enthusiasts wish they’d get something simpler, fun to drive.

Good news! The Stuttgart marque has brought back the 911 Carrera T for its ongoing 992 model. This touring-spec 992 is poised for a diet consisting of lighter glass windshields, rear seats and insulation removal. Oh, did we mention it comes with a 7-speed manual gearbox option?

As electrification gives birth to ridiculously powerful cars, having a performance-minded car with no power increase from its inferior base model is quite refreshing, really. The T’s sporting pedigree comes in a form of systematic weight reduction. After all, less weight also equals more power, right?

Rear seats are removed because no reasonable-minded person would ever sit on the super tight rear seats on a sports coupe. Thinner glass is used for all of its windows as well as reduced insulation so that you can hear the flat-6 roaring louder than before – literally. All of these strict diet restrictions have yielded the 992 T some 35 KG lighter than the standard 992 Carrera at 1,470 KG.

In spite of the aforementioned weight loss, Porsche still managed to find ways to jazz up the T’s interior. Coming with a lightweight bucket sports seat as standard, the brand also offers optional Adaptive Sports Seat Plus electric seat upgrade. Additional leather finishes are also available as options, just in case.

So, a sports performance car is just a normal car with seats and paddings removed? Not so fast, champ. Befitting the whole sports-touring theme is the addition of PASM adaptive sports suspension – part of its standard Sports Chrono package. Said dampers have lowered the 992 T as much as 10 MM for added performance. This plus the rear-axle steering and 20 and 21-inch Titanium Grey wheels are some of the parts borrowed from the T’s older, more expensive siblings – the Carrera S.

Powering this light-weighted car is the 3.0 L 6-cyl twin-turbo boxer engine – similar to the basic 911 Carrera – outputting 380 HP and 450 NM of twist. The T also comes with two gearbox offerings – the 7-speed manual or PDK automatic dual-clutch. Yet another S-borrowed specs are the limited-slip diffs and Porsche’s proprietary torque vectoring.
This powertrain package in addition to the weight reduction propels the Carrera from 0 to 100 KMH in 4.5 seconds. Flat out, it can go up to 291 KMH – that’s a true sports car number.

The new 911 Carrera T comes with five special colourways – Chalk, Ruby Star Neo, Carmine Red, Shark Blue and the featured Python Green. Poised for launch this February 2023, this touring 992 will set back customers around € 123,845 (RM572,796) for the local German market.
